I'm hoping to not have co-headliners again in all honesty...

with the lack of any REALLY huge names seemingly up for grabs as headliners next year i think they'll definitely have co-headliners again - seem to be quite a few acts who could probably be bumped up as such so i don't see why they wouldn't

Well if we take bands that have subbed properly (not under co-headliners) we have:

2016: Imagine Dragons
2015: Alt-J, BMTH and Kendrick Lamar
2014: Jake Bugg and Macklemore

The only one of them i would say hasn't reached the same status is Jake Bugg and it's well documented how ridiculous that booking was.

Subbing under co-headliners they could do without a doubt or exclusive.

Not that ridiculous when you think about it. Two consecutive top five albums, one of which reached the top spot. No worse than when they had BMTH subbing the following year.

In what way would Kanye not be a guaranteed ticket shifter at Reading? Anyone saying that didn't go to Reading this year.

The only people that would be annoyed would be people that don't go to Reading much anymore anyway, he'd be far more popular than The Libertines.

I'd love to think R&L have at least got Kendrick in their thoughts. He's rumored for Coachella next year and has yet to play any non-festival gigs in the UK for a while, so I think there's a demand there too. Kanye would be fine and I'm sure would get a massive crowd.

Kendrick though would be the only headliner that would instantly sell me a least a day ticket, apart from the really unlikely ones (Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Daft Punk, Rage Against The Machine) and the fairly unlikely (Foos, Muse etc).

That's the most ridiculous statement you could have made!, this being said you have been tieing yourself up in nots with your own bull the past week.

Kasabian

Tame Impala

Wolf Alice

Run The Jewels (3 Motherfuckers!)

The Hives

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes

NME- Catfish & The Bottlemen

Arcade Fire

Frank Ocean

Deftones

The Shins

Gone Is Gone

NME- Placebo

Bring Me The Horizon

Royal Blood

You Me At Six

Mallory Knox

Incubus

NME- Skepta

I'd be mostly happy with this. I reckon Frank Ocean is pretty unlikely so maybe sub for Alt-J (reckon that'd be the co-headline)

I believe Josh Homme will be there under some guise so maybe add Them Crooked Vultures in the Top 2 on one of the days. (Yes I know TCV aren't "officially" working on anything but Dave and Josh seem to be working on stuff and with their history, who knows? Are they relevant to current R&L fans though?)

If BMTH are deffo not doing festivals (personally reckon they'll be an R&L European Exclusive) I could see a Royal Blood/ YM@6 co headline like people have suggested but it'd be aaaawful!)

Other bands I'd like to see at R&L 2017:

*Brand New (saying goodbye soon, Main Stage, Top 5)

*Weezer (rumoured every year, haven't played in ages. Maybe still promoting last record?)

*Franz Ferdinand (lost their massive fanbase, long overdue return, maybe headline NME or Top 4 Main)

*Scroobius Pip (head in podcasts and acting but NME stage middle for diddle, great live)

*Loads of new acts- Estrons, Creeper, Waterparks, SWMRS, Allusondrugs (not new but DIY and Yorkshire based so Leeds for the win)

BMTH were brilliant last night, huge stage show at the O2, I now think they could easily headline R&L.

with a new album out i'd definitely agree, but the That's The Spirit tour has been going for ages now. has a band ever played the festival in a lower position and then returned to headline on the same album cycle? think Oli ruled them out of next year anyway, but must be a sure thing for whenever the new album's ready (probably 2018)

I'm going to the Nottingham date tomorrow night. Looking forward to seeing the stage production in person as some of the pictures I've seen from the O2 last night look really awesome. Setlist is pretty standard though, apart from the inclusion of Crucify Me, which is my favourite BMTH song and the best track they've ever produced, imo. Broco beforehand so it should be an awesome night.

But they were booked before That's The Spirit had been recorded, and played before it had been released. they've now got a bigger arena tour than at least two of 2016's headliners under their belt. I could see them closing off the That's The Spirit cycle at Reading.

The Darkness, The Strokes, Nirvana.

Granted, the festival scene was very different in the past.

Although there was seemingly a denial, I didn't think they would turn it down if offered it now with the chance to play a new song or two. It's a 50/50.

Kasabian, BMTH and two co-headliners......take your pick wouldn't be surprising....but nor would no co-headliners and a Paramore outright either.

A few acts there that are either unlikely to play Reading ever again or simply will not.

Gorillaz are unlikely to, Smashing Pumpkins with a reformed line-up won't be accepting sub slots at festivals, so that takes them out of the running for Reading.

Iggy Pop and The Flaming Lips aren't playing Reading again.

but they've already toured the absolute arse out of it - who could honestly get excited about them headlining off the back of a two year old album, a third of which they already played two years prior in a lower position? i get that they're much bigger now, but would be a total wasted opportunity - let them record a new album that will undoubtedly hit number 1 and headline off the back of that

The Darkness only did 'cause their album got delayed, but the other two took massive jumps in popularity and up the lineup the following year rather than sub to headliner with a two year gap, and yeah... think they'd struggle to get away with a stunt like that these days

So three nights of:
Flume, HAIM, Wolf Alice, The Hives
Gorillaz, Skepta, Run The Jewels, The National
The Flaming Lips, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Interpol

That'd be great but like Gozpot said a bunch of those bands won't appear at R&L :(
