Joking a bit. Poor old Phil gets a hard time. Another Day in Paradise and In The Air Tonight would rock the place I spose.

 

Easy Lover and You Can't Hurry Love would have people running for the long drops however. Undoing their belts and pulling the bags down mid sprint.

 

I suspect the folding-chair-bingo-winged-sunday-arrivals would lap it up. I prefer Phil's earlier, darker stuff. In The Air tonight, I don't care anymore and Take Me Home are still awesome - even without accompanying an espadrille-wearing Don Johnson in a Ferrari.

That's a matter of opinion, but they're all too big to be in the Oldies Slot.

 

They aren't though..... Dolly is in the same league as Eagles in terms of worldwide sales, and both her and Lionel (including his time in the Commodores) dwarf, in sales, the majority of headliners the festival has had.

If they pull another massive name IE Dolly/Lionel, they'll NEED to get someone better than bloody Twin Atlantic on the other stage to try and pull some of the crowd away, save it from getting stupid busy

It could be great or horrendous, depending on what side of the drunk/hangover line you're on. He doesn't seem right for the slot to me, but put him elsewhere on the Pyramid and it would be great.

I don't think the festival could come close to stumping up the kind of cash the Eagles would demand for this. They really are the definition of the phrase 'in it for the money' these days.

Another consideration with Van is that his crowd interaction isn't exactly great and given the nature of the slot now, he might drive people away

Really?  What makes you say that?  Don't see Beckham having any need to do it, she's got her fashion career in the US and hardly needs the cash.  The rest of them might do it, but nothing's been heard from them since London 2012 as far as I was aware.  Also not sure they'd give themselves over to the idea of being a "novelty" act.  But you tend to know more about this stuff than most!

 

Having said all of that, I might watch it for the inevitable car crash that would ensue...

If that 60 minute gig can get a 12 year old compilation album to number 1 (which looks the case with Lionel), every act in the world with a handful of popular tunes will be calling Glasto HQ. Its the biggest gig in the world now.

 

The only bigger gigs are Olympic openers and Geldof organised events and the like.

Barry Manilow seems to tick the right boxes from the past couple of years, everybody likes to have a good sing along so you need enough tunes for that to happen and B- Man has them aplenty.

Queen with Adam Lambert I agree with earlier post completely, legends slot or headliner. Against all my expectation I see them earlier in the year and I was staggered at how good they were.

For context I'm 48 and have been to more gigs than I care to remember so I've seen enough to compare them with.

I think the Spice Girls in the legends slot may be a bit too dangerous, they'd need the other stages to pull their weight at the same time. Can't see them headlining though.

 

However, I might be biased here.

Same with Bob - got the biggest back catalogue of all, but not the most crowd friendly performer, especially if people are hoping for recognisable versions of the classics.

 

Regarding Elton, happy to headline Bestival a year or two back so I could see him happy for legend slot

For all intents and purposes he's been retired for years.  Would be utterly sublime if it happened.  Equally, could see an early evening slot on West Holts going his way with somewhat less expectation.  About as likely as Mr Waits though, I fear.

Its a shame The Beautiful South weren't a bit more international cos the Paul Abbot and Jacqui Oakley thing could tick all the right boxes. Loads of well known songs
