I'm not sure it ever got actual planning permission, only that MDC just got tired of asking ME to take it down each year (and being subsequently ignored). In the end they just gave up.

I seem to remember the frame might have been taken down once after its first appearance in 2000. However, its otherwise permanent now.

I genuinely think a new one is coming in the next few years, now it's smaller than Other.  Wouldn't surprise me if there was a new structure for 2020.

I'd love to see what they'd do with a new one, obviously they'd have to keep the iconic pyramid shape, I did think that Sheeran's three screens looked a little odd on the current pyramid, so maybe they'd make it more of a multi purpose type of thing with more flexibility if they did redesign it.

They never got permanent planning permission. At some point the permission to stay up year round got incorporated into the Event licence, and on that basis they've currently got permission to keep it up until the end of 2024.

The council did protest about the lack of year round permission in the late 00's, and it was taken down at least a couple times around then because of that.

I didn't know this :) I mean, the Other is big but doesn't look any bigger than the Pyramid to my eye (although I am 4 parts blind!!). Surprises me that.

Think the main thing from that video regarding the Other stage was that the new style used in the last few years allows them to have large areas free to either side behind the big screens to use for preparing gear, whereas the Pyramid cannot have that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Other Stage the same stage they use for Reading/Leeds? (I could probably Google this but hey-ho!)

In  some respects I've always thought the Other Stage was bigger than the Pyramid, maybe not in regard to the actual floor space on stage though.

Worthy View is officially the most messy part of the site at this point.

Amazing that it's returned to (almost) normal so quickly!

Definitely keen to make a visit next summer, to explore the land outside of festival time.

No it's completely bespoke for Glastonbury:

    • Consider that the sound quality can be better near the front bars right behind the soundbooth rather than closer to the stage, like with mbv. And of course, the front sections are full of talkers too.   The most courteous move would be to have conversations in the very back of the field.
    • I mean...I do think it all needs more regulation, but god knows how when it's all so global...but there's so much stuff on there that is messing with our little minds. But also, he has given these companies till September, and well...he'll surely be gone by then. I think social media ban for under 16s will likely happen, but I think regulating it for everyone is better. It's the not the kids we should be worried about, it's all those middle aged doom scrolling keyboard warriors like me.
    • I agree the prices are tough for locals. You can see if Porto timetable is the type that works for you and it's a terrific city. Also cheaper. https://www.primaverasound.com/es/porto/lineup-porto
    • thanks XXialac! i guess for us the most important aspect will be a festival that starts very late in the day, specially in these southern countries were it can be really hot! The combination of visiting a new city, having good lunches and enjoying a festival is a absolute must for us. Also, we like headliners but the undercard is just as important; truly enjoyed Men I trust, NewDad, Big Thief this year so from that angle it is not really a big thing if a festival is somewhat smaller.    Apparently my bad, i had 5 in my system but 0.5 (10%) increase is still huge. I am not sure how teenagers can afford these prices............
