Yeah, you said before. Personally I think the festival has little to lose and much to gain by giving borderline acts a shot at it, but obviously the Eavii disagree.

But surely Biffys shot when they were a borderline act was in 2013 when they headlined R/L? Not Glastonbury HQs fault that, in their eyes, they didn't manage to sustain the momentum given by that. How many shots at headlining do a band need to be given? Until they stick as a headliner? I know by all accounts they nailed those festival headline sets, but for one reason or another they're now not deemed worthy to repeat them (even at a festival they did one at) so why should Glastonbury have a weak headliner because of it?

I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek with that comment  there's more of a chance of Pink Floyd and TOOL doing a co-headline deal than there is of Biffy headlining Glastonbury playing Vertigo in full!

while that's true, should the festival be turning away bigger and better options if they're available instead?

I'm sure that's a dilemma for every booker every year, and they have to manage their way thru it in the way they think is best for the festival for both the year they're booking for and for future years.

And with regard to the bands who are still coming up rather than strongly established as headliners, the up-coming bands are far easier to book so can be slotted in at any time, while the biggest acts tend to have much more erratic availability - meaning you have to book the big acts when available, and fall back towards the upcoming acts when they're not.

Given that Glastonbury has es6tablished itself as the best festival in the world by doing things the way it does things, I don't think they can really be knocked for it. They're definitely doing something right.

Interestingly though the things that make Glastonbury "the best festival" are all the things that aren't the Pyramid and Other stage in my opinion.  If you removed West Holts, Park, Dance area, Night time, Cabaret, etc. and just had Pyramid, Other, JP and maybe BBC Introducing, I think it would struggle to differentiate itself from IOW or Reading. ... it is everything outside of these big bookings that sprinkle the magic.

Maybe true but it's the overall reputation of the festival that leads to big acts wanting to do it, so whether or not Adele headlining is your thing, it's not something any of those other festivals could've dreamed of making happen (if it does happen, that is). Remove the Pyramid and those special headliners and you remove a piece of what it is (or at least, what it's become, for better or for worse). It definitely wouldn't have the same esteem without them

Higher than most times as we know we are in the "2 weeks" window Emily mentioned.

With 6 days to go on it. I'd say slightly better than 6/1 as I dont remember any saturday announcements previously.

Maybe it is a symbiotic relationship... but I think Isle Of Wight does alright*, look at the last 10 years of headliners (look at the last 11 and find David Bowie).

 

*although I'm not sure Stereophonics and Faithless would find themselves in a headline at Glastonbury.

Is it feasible that Reading already had FOB as a co-header booked before a pull out, and therefore Biffys booking is to just take that slot? It's strange they co-headline if FOB were only subs?. I don't see any other way than R&L not seeing them as outright headers themselves.

They have all but confirmed an announcement with actually saying those words before March by replying to tweet saying Feb isn't over yet, probably not likely to do that if it wasn't going ro happen.

Is this based on any information in particular? If this is true, it'll be an Adele to headline announcement. Radio 1 certainly won't be the platform for announcing Radiohead. Maybe Muse though. Roll on a 6 Music announcement!
