The Fall

Well I never thought I would ever see the day when they graced Worthy Farm!

Absolutely made up to see them announced.

First watched them in 1980 and many times in between. Will catch them in Liverpool next month.

I appreciate they are probably one of the most 'marmite' of bands and many wont ' get it' but Im sure they will draw a decent crowd. Despite the many line up changes MES always has an excellent band with him and the ' sound' is always without mistake their own.

As they named one of their greatest hits album - "50,000 Fall fans can't be wrong". A real marmite band but what a band at that! Personally, I love nothing more than Mr. Smith snarling witty lyrics down a microphone, half of which don't make sense.

I'll be there with bells on! :)

Yeah, you either love them or haven't heard of them.

Excellent news. really looking forward to the new album, band have been superb lately, Smith seems to have calmed down a bit, not as erratic, though it must be said they're not usually at their best at festivals, better late night in a dingy club.

That's Mark's wife here apparently! Elena Poulou her name is and she's currently playing keyboards in the band. Ol' Mark is doing alright for himself isn't he?

I might have them mixed up with another band... but I honestly thought the Fall were billed to be headline sized? Or am I definitely mixing them up with someone else?

I just remember someone suggesting them to either sub or headline...? I think?

The chap who suggested The Stone Roses for the Other Stage suggested these to headline, but no, they aren't headline status.

Also I googled Mark E Smith after I read he was banned and crikey he's a scary looking guy.

Never heard their music.

Last time I saw them - 3 years ago, mibbe? - it was a total shambles.

MES wandered away offstage about 2 songs in and performed most of the gig sitting backstage out of sight of the audience, leaving Ms Smith (pictured above) to deal with the increasingly belligerent crowd. Place was only about 1/4 full by the time he eventually came back out onstage to do the encore.

I reckon they'll play the JPT and I also reckon that it won't go off without a hitch.

I know a lot of their gigs end up like that but was that at The Picture House? with his Mrs shouting that "we weren't all doctors so we couldn't know how bad his feet where." after all the nonsense him storming back on stage for Mr Pharmacist was triumphant.

Surely they have to play the John Peel Tent seeing as they were the great man's favourite band...

My thoughts exactly. I think they'd be fairly high up on JP or Park.

Hopefully the gig will run smoothly!

Aye. That was the one. I enjoyed it, but definitely caveat emptor, you know.

He seems to have a habit of marrying attractive young ladies and giving them a role in the band. Which makes him, arguably, the only man in human history to have turned a lifetime's devotion to The Fall into a succesful strategy for pulling birds.

    • This basically!, it's about as clear as day they'll be there.
    • Yeah there is no down time, I'm still tired and over thinking from last weeks work. A big reality check this week. If you just do it for the money you always will.

    • Robbie Williams would fit with the current state of the legend’s slot, and he’d bring the house down.
