The Fall

The group next to me did that - even with Lou Reed! FFS! The trailer trash you get at the Pyramid these days.

Much the same, 3 conversations with them.

Confused onlookers: Who's that?

Gnomicide: Lou Reed

CO: Oh! (at least they know who he was)

CO: Who the fook's that old bugger?

G: Mark E Smith

CO: Who?

G: You know, from The Fall

CO: The what?

G: Doesn't matter

CO: Is that guy playing a tuba

G: No, it's a euphonium

CO: What the fook's a euphonium?

G: Like a tuba but bigger

CO: Oh.

What a night! :yahoo:

A question - Did Mark or The Fall play in acoustic in the early noughties (03/04 ish)? I have a hazy memory of watching him in a tent with a real ale in my hand, really small crowd. I'm thinking it might have been acoustic at Glastonbury (due to the real ale) but could have been a totally different festival because we used to do quite a few back then.

I have looked up the lineups but can't see him/them listed.

I saw them at the Reading Festival 2006 in the Radio 1 tent. Not very many people watching, wrong audience for them really :derisive:

I was there as well. No more than 200 people in a tent that holds at least 10000.

It was bizarre, but they played a good set including A great version of Sparta FC

I dunno about them. Saw them years ago, he's you know, well it's Mark E, innit. Not much more to say. But think I'll probably go and see someone else. Toying with Jamie T, to be honest

I've seen them play loadsa times - never dull. However current Fall setlists are a disaster.

I'll prolly be at Roy Ayers.

Brilliant point that is a challenge to argue against.

You know MES is going to do something characteristic. If it was any other stage than The Park I'd probably give it a miss, but I fancy getting up the front for this one.

Its quite simple with The Fall. You will get the majority of the latest album and one maybe two older songs. Of late its generally been Sparta FC, they did play Blindness in Liverpool.

The new album is typical, briliant in parts and decidedly ropey in others. I am not keen on the gruff voice he has adopted on a number of songs over the last few albums!

In recent years Your Future Our Clutter is probably my favourite album.

Still buzzing they are on and being at The Park is a massive bonus its one of the better stages at the festival.

Did anyone on here go?!

Classic MES right from the off:

"Nice one for turning us down c***s, in Salford Manchester they think this is a lovely place. The band must be so happy to be here"

He then proceeds to piss his pants two songs in, playing on in true rock n roll fashion.

Definitely worth catching on the iPlayer, proper rowdy crowd as well. Nice to see The Fat White Family watching from the side of the stage too.

Turned up with my dad as he is a big fan, wasn't sure what it'd be like. Started off and i was like "uh oh, it's awful" but halfway in i was loving it. Dropout boogie a one of my fave songs too.

The band sounded great. I thought he'd pissed himself, it was quite funny to see him basically going around each mic and starting a fight with them all.

Did he actually piss himself? Didn't go myself but I've heard so, the footage looks slightly incriminating as well..

I'm 90% certain he did after watching the footage back, at the time we asked ourselves "has he pissed himself". But looking at the BBC, he comes on stage with dry trousers and no drink in his hand.

Let's hope it's not another 21 years before they're invited back again...
