Foo fighters, Florence and the machine, Kanye west, pharrell, alt-J, Paloma faith, George Ezra, Rudimental, deadmau5, the vaccines, the Maccabees, fka twigs, run the jewels, Jamie T, Ben Howard, Mark Ronson, years & years, Charli xcx, (catfish and the bottlemen), Ella eyre and Hozier are massive mainstream acts.

I don't understand how someone can argue this lineup isn't very mainstream when pretty much all of those listed have pretty massive followings!

I think this year is a massive step up (mainstream wise) than last year... I'd say there's more acts this year who get a lot of radio support.

I edited in seconds after.

several minutes, after it had already been quoted, and well after your initial post that didn't specify anything.

no-one missed a point, you just did a really bad job of explaining what you're talking about.

i still don't know what point you're trying to make, Palma Violets and Coasts are nothing like Brandon Flowers or Kodaline in terms of mainstream popularity.

They are just as shit though.

(Actually I quite like Brandon's lastest single ...and everyone loves the Killers first album)

I think I understand what poster briddj is trying to say, as whilst there is a few really mainstream acts the majority is a bit different & varied from your typical lineup that average Joe punter would know - we are talking about casual music fan,

I know we know most if not all of those acts but I bet if I asked around my office if people know these acts and more importantly name one song, I am sure most wouldn't be able to....so I thinks that's where they are coming from :)

There are a few I can't place what they have done as well so be firing up the youtube at the weekend to start the annual go through the bands list to find some new stuff - I'm very excited by all this :) :)

Stage prediction before the week's news:

i think it's the opposite, way more mainstream radio 1 sort of stuff than last year.

Do you all think that maybe the reason there's more 'Radio 1' this year is because Radio 1 has shifted, not Glasto?

Personally I think Radio 1 have been making more of a push to "We love new music!" and "Guitars are cool again!" in the last 12 months than the last few years. I hear Wolf Alice on there all the time but they're not what most would call a 'traditional Radio 1' act, for example.

As an aside, an act being on Radio 1 doesn't make them shit - it means they're popular, and nothing more. Make your own mind up about whether you enjoy things, who gives a shit whether they like it too?

By my count there were 19 'Radio 1' acts on last year's first poster, whereas there are 28 this year. So a bit of an increase. As said above, I wouldn't necessarily say that makes them 'mainstream' though. Enter Shikari and FKA Twigs both get played but they're not really what I think people are referring to by 'mainstream'. Conversely, some of the really, really mainstream acts (like Lionel) wouldn't come under the 'Radio 1' category.

Notably all 5 announced acts at the top of the bill this year are Radio 1 acts, whereas last year only Kasabian and (borderline) the Black Keys were. And of course it turned out to be Metallica as the third headliner, who are not either. So that might skew opinions.

Back in 2007. Arcitc Monkeys/Killers/Kasabian/Kooks/Kaiser Chiefs/Fratellis/Editors/Amy Winehouse/Lily Allen/Bloc Party/James Morrison were all as mainstream as you could get and got loads of Radio 1 exposure

To me the main stages seem to have been pretty mainstream in their acts for as long as I've been following the festival and it's park etc. where you find all the non 'Radio 1/Mainstream' stuff.

Tried not to get too excited about it on account of not having a ticket. Fully on board the hype train now. See you all in June!

You got yourself a ticket will? Haha good on you! Will you attend the efest meet?
