I'm most excited about the Mothership, Pharrell, Mary J and FFS.

Though obviously full and proper research will commence tomorrow. Have been very restrained this evening due to exam tomorrow, only pausing revision to dance round the lounge to "We Got The Funk" twice...

I was supposed to be finishing some work up on a video and some music i'm making but i ended up dancing around to this a few times.

Can anyone comment on the Caliber of acts that may be in the second announcement? Is it expected that some big names have been left out or is it more just early in the day acts? Other than Metallica, can anyone recall the bigger names in the second announcement last year?

I had a look at that.

The War On Drugs and Nick Mulvey were the only acts I have heard of that got added to the Pyramid after the initial poster.

On the Other Stage: Haim, Imagine Dragons, Circa Waves, Ellie Goulding, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Horrors, Sam Smith, White Lies and The Subways

West Holts: Deltron 3030, The Stepkids and Troker

So lots of bigger stuff got added to The Other Stage afterwards! But I think there may be some more Pyramid stuff this time as the initial poster is a bit smaller. Not 100% on that though.

Surely Rudimental are only playing this year as their set was cut short last year by the storms? Seems odd they would play consecutive years otherwise. Could be wrong mind!

Yep, there'll be more big names to come. Critically, many of the names you and I might consider 'big' aren't actually big in a commercial sense, so they don't make the cut when it comes to the big publicity drives like the initial poster, but if you look at that poster it's pretty clear to me that the beauty of the festival is largely found in the two outside columns and it's artists of that nature that will be added next month, I reckon.

I actually prefer the big line-up announcement (with stages and times) more than I do the poster that's just been released, because you can actually plan a bit then, and be aware of the dreaded clashes. I'm also awed by the sheer logistics in putting something of that scale together. It's incredibly impressive when you think about it.

I am a big fan of the big announcement to, as soon as everything is announced it's listening time, planning and disappointed at the clashes. I'm always impressed by the smaller venues, many of them put on a brilliant line up, work hard, provide good drinks, good vibes etc. It's often the non commercial aspects of the festival which make it for me. The moment on Wednesday, arriving, setting up the tent, grabbing drinks and going on the walk up to the hill near the park and finally getting to sit and see the festival again is why I go back yearly! Everyone involved in every aspect of the festival should be incredibly proud of what they manage to do yearly.

May is usually when the full announcement is 'dropped' (would never use that word normally but gets mentioned alot on here, thought I would follow the masses!!)

I'm excited!! Needed a little pick up this month and this has done the trick.

Thanks! That's really helpful, the other stage bands added are awesome so i'm hopeful for the level of act, although pretty happy with what is already announced. I just counted last year initial poster had 84 acts, this year 76, pretty close but obviously a few more to go.

If I remember rightly the poster doesn't cover stages like the acoustic stage, Leftfield, dance areas and quite a bit of West Holts, who announce their line ups much later. These stages often include a few gems too

Yes it does, look at last years......

Late to the party.. I was out when the announcement dropped so could only have a quick glance of the line up! I'm kinda underwhelmed with the line up. There's loads on there that I've already seen at other festivals/gigs but I'd see them again. Nothing that jumps out at me really.

I actually think that's perfect. Last year I was so keen to see so many people I was fixated on planning and making sure I didn't miss anyone and panicking if I couldn't get there in time. This year, I'll be far more chilled. A couple of people I definitely want to see, but the rest I'll go to in a much more calm and chilled out way - which is how I imagined glastonbury would be.

    • some point this week the insta post says
    • I guess we should also not underestimate that the Slowdive sound person is probably not quite used to open-air daytime performances in such a large, open area. 🙂 I imagine it's very different from mixing the sound in a tent. Plus, even though I was openminded about it at first - you never know how things might sound or work out in a different setting if you don't try - I just don't think their sound is very suited for this kind of setting, it really benefits from darkness and a nice light show and all that. Still, nice that they got to give it a try.
    • i agree, was really disappointed by the Slowdive sound (we were fairly close to the podium) also if you consider that for all other main stage acts i saw they got it perfectly right.
    • Thanks man for sharing your thoughts. I would say i generally agree with you and do agree people close to the podium should position themselves further back if they want to have full conversations and apparently are not interested in the music; to fair it is mind boggling these people are even there as chatting gets so much easier in the back field. That said i did not really have the same experience as you, front rows for example at MBV, Men I trust, Big Thief, NewDad, Slowdive, where really into the music.    yes i BBK is really high on our list but we just realized it is next year 25 years of Primavera so perhaps we do one more.
    • When does the Thursday lineup get announced? I see they had Moonchild Sanelly and Young Knives last year, would be cool to get something along those lines again.
