Ok maybe a bit harsh. I struggle with some of the "heritage" shows to be honest. It just felt a bit like another slick going-through-the-motions show. Now if I'd seen him in the 70's, I'm sure that would have been completely different.

I was the opposite. Originally thought it would be another slick going-through-the-motions show but was pleasantly surprised. Great gig from the moment he walked out on stage right up to and including Michael Eavis butchering Happy Birthday at the end. He held the tune down, slit its throat with a rusty blade and defiled its twitching corpse.

If you were just going by tv footage I'm not sure how anyone could put the Stones in their top three. It sounded horrid.

Never does it justice, ever. Great gigs can sound shit and shit gigs can sound ok. I remember my mates saying to me how great Oasis looked on tv after 04. They were horrific.

The crowd singing the Satisfaction riff back to the band at the end of The Stones still gives me shivers even thinking about it. As does the Cant Always Get What You Want sing a long.

And the smoke that formed a blood red ceiling above the Pyramid Field during Sympathy for the Devil is something Ill never forget. As psychedelic and surreal as you'll ever see. And Ive been really fucked up during a couple of Flaming Lips gigs before.

I went to Glasto 2013 because of the Stones. On my own, I booked my place with Oxfam on a whim because I really wanted to see them. Best impulse decision I've ever made.

Blur 09 wasn't just the best headline set I've ever seen, it's probably the best gig I've ever seen. Magical stuff.

Agreed. Not just my favourite Glastonbury set but the best gig of my life. A masterclass in the perfect festival set.

Fair enough, can be many things, for example, how close / far you are, whether the people around you are into it or just chatting, etc etc. I didn't take much from it personally but I'm still glad to have seen the man.

I have always found the sound on tv footage to be nowhere as good as hearing it live, rewatched Arcade Fire's set recently and Reflektor sounded terrible, despite it being brilliant on the night.

I'm no sound expert but I've often suspect that it's because the BBC microphones are down the front where the sound isn't as good.

Music on the TV is always a bit weird though, I find that performances on Jools never really do an act justice. Yet you would have thought that somebody in the TV world would have worked out a way to get decent sound which at least partially reflects a band's live show.

I'm a big fan as I posted earlier on in the thread and Blur 2009 was by far the best gig I have ever been at. For all the reasons stated here and just the fact that connection between the band and the crowd was like nothing I've ever felt before. When everyone started singing "Oh my baby Oh My baby" it just took the band aback and totally shell shocked them. At that point I think they realised at how much of an important band they are and how much they mean to people. They have cited Glastonbury as the best gig they have ever done and who could argue. It was totally of the scale and a night that will be with me for the rest of my life.

When Damon cried in 2009 I nearly cried. Emotionally brilliant.

No nearly about it, I was a wreck! In fact my eyes started leaking on four separate occasions during that set - incredibly emotional!

I heard it was the same for Elbow in, oh, 2011 maybe? I thought they sounded fantastic in the sunset Pyramid slot, but according to people back home the sound was awful.

I'm sure I read somewhere that sometimes the TV just has to take the same mix as the PA, which might account for it.

(Someone with more audio knowledge than me will probably be along shortly to clear it up!)

On the Blur front, it's a toss up between them in 2009 and the Stones as the best Pyramid headliner I've seen. Though to be honest, when I do see a Pyramid headline set, I kind of expect to be disappointed. It's a hard one to get right.

Blur '09, the whole atmosphere was charged.. That gig was incredible, Damon's outpouring of emotion built up over the years! Killer setlist. That moment of the crowd singing 'oh my baby'. Fucking lucky to have been in that

Just imagine if Blur pulled out a secret show somewhere? This was Saturday night in Wolverhampton to 300 people, gutted I missed out on a ticket. All gone in 15 seconds.

Nice to see the setlist mixed up a little too, 09 and 12 had pretty similar openings and endings. Get Song 2 out of the way early (I always feel there are some people who are just waiting for it), overall looks good.

God I'm desperate to see them again, but barring a financial miracle it looks unlikely.
