are Blur not on a bit of a hiding to nothing here? that '09 set is well regarded because it sort of came out of the blue, and was all hits. people didn't know if they would have or would ever play again. now that level will be expected of them, if they don't reach those heights - and they inevitably won't because the circumstances are different - then it'll always come off less favourably.

plus they'll be playing new stuff, and everyone loves that.

i could still see them playing but expecting a repeat of last time is perhaps a bit on the hopeful side, i reckon.

this is exactly why i'm doubtful of them playing. playing more or less the same set as last time, except with far more expectation and some new material thrown in? there's no way they can succeed really. they'd put on a great show, yeah, but it'll always be criticised for not being as good as their '09 one

These are the reasons, well set out Mr Yeti sir, that I'll feel a bit conflicted if they are announced. But if it's them or Taylor Swift, I'll take the new album and a few hits all the way!

Yep that's my thoughts. If they play it'll be good but not that good.

Radiohead triumphantly returned after putting in a legendary performance previously, but it's not really comparable as they had put out more excellent material in the meantime.

It's funny really how blur are now just a 90s heritage band whereas radiohead remain at the peak of their powers.

Garbage?? Think it's a decent album if you ignore crazy beats

As I said, not a big fan. Think Tank is pretty boring. They're a 90s heritage act to me. Loved Under the Westway mind you. And I like the new tune.

But even taking Think Tank as a decent album, one album 12 years ago (considered their worst by many) and two good singles in between is not enough for them to be anything but a 90s heritage act - at the moment.

If the new album is up to the standard of the single that will all change I'm sure.

But for the moment they're only relevant for rekindling old memories of drinking warm beer in the park and failing miserably trying to open some girls bra in the bushes.

As much as I love Blur it's hard to disagree with this. But then there's nothing wrong with being a heritage act.

Supposed to have heard by 4pm today if we have won tickets but no one seems to have mentioned it online yet? Beats by Dre are still advertising being able to win tickets and have two different dates on their terms and conditions

"5. During the Promotion Period all valid entries will be entered into a free prize draw. The first 2x Twitter entrants’ names selected at random from all valid entries by a computer programme at 1600 hours on 19th March 2015 will receive a 2x guest list entry to Blur’s secret show in London. The computer programme is designed to pick entries at random.

6. The winning participants will be notified of their win on the 18th March 2015 by Direct Message on Twitter. It is the responsibility of the winners to ensure that they contact Beats by Dre when requested. Winners have until 10am 19th March to respond to the promoter and if return contact is not made within that time period the prize will be forfeited without exception. ID will be required on entry from both guests."

Do we still have a chance?

Nal, you're not a fan. Never were. Gas commercial. We geddit. *sigh*

You forgot the Fanta and the Pal Dog Food ads!

Doesn't disprove my point though. Russys original point. I'm sure they'll be considered relevant again after this album though going by the new tune.

Radiohead still being at the peak of their powers is a more contentious position to adopt.

Radiohead could put out a record of Yorke playin "She'll be comin' round the Mountain" on his cheeks and someone somewhere would opine that it's yet another nuanced artrock triumph.

They're bringing out a new album. Fail to see the point tbh. Other than non-fans snarking.

You should be a Radiohead fan!

"non-fans"

:sarcastic:

In Rainbows is good. So that's one decent album in the last 15 years.

"Fans" will say all the albums have been good. Kid A and Amnesiac are incredible apparently. The Breaking Bad of Radiohead albums. Must listen to them.
