As previously mentioned, the programming, for me, is all over the place -

The programme is so all over the place I’m seriously beginning to suspect they don’t actually know what they’re doing 😂

For instance: who put Benji B in between Paranoid London and Blawan, forcing everone to leave for two hours 🤦‍♂️

Alright Team

I've spent many an hour since the line up drop trying to formulate some kind of plan, I now have a semblance of a first draft, although as you'll see there are gaps to fill and many decisions to be made!

This is the least clear cut year I've had in ages, many of the DJs I wanted to see are either clashing, dotted in opposite corners of the festival or on at silly times... Imogen deserves better than a 9pm slot!

Anyway, first world problems, here goes......

Thursday

Option 1

Peaky T (Blind Tiger) > MJ Cole (Glade) > Palms Trax (Levels) > Con Man b2b Job Jobse (Levels) > Marie Davidson (Levels)

Option 2

Peaky T (Blind Tiger) > MJ Cole (Glade) > A Little Sound (Glade Dome) > Ross From Friends (Glade) > Calibre (Glade Dome) > Joy Orbison (Glade) > Eli Brown (Glade Dome)

Decision will largely be down to how we're feeling and how busy areas are, I think ideally I'd love to do Con Man b2b Job Jobse AND Joy O, but not sure it's feasible. There's also options to see them on other days so not the biggest headache to have.

Friday

Daytime is a little sparse for bands we want to see, so we may head to The Glade for Crazy P and Carl Cox and his disco set.

Then after that we could have a run of.....

Daniel Avery b2b Imogen (Glade) (although we may head to Busta Rhymes) > Floating Points (Woodsies) > Four Tet (Woodsies)

We then have 4 way clash....

Option 1

HAAi (San Remo)

Option 2

Amelie Lens (Lonely Hearts)

Option 3

Romy (Arcadia) > Job Jobse (Arcadia)

Option 4

Oppidan (Temple) > Joy O (Temple) > Bullet Tooth (Temple)

Saturday

Option 1

HAAi b2b Romy (Levels) > Erol Alkan b2b Ewan McVicar (Levels) > Caribou (Park) > Amelie Lens (Glade) > Malugi (Stonebridge)

Option 2

Daytime raving at either Barry Can't Swim (Temple) or Jamie XX > Imogen (Genosys) > Caribou (Park) > Amelie Lens (Glade) > Malugi (Stonebridge)

This largely depends on if Patchwork is Pulp or not

Sunday

Parcels (West Holts) > Prodigy (Other) > Malugi (Temple) > Ki/Ki (Temple) > Ben Sims (Temple)

Post Prodigy will depend on our exit plans, if I'm not the designated driver then finishing the festival off in The Temple will be perfect.

I HAVE to see HAAi, Amelie Lens and JJ at some point, it's just working out which days/sets we attend. We also need to get our yearly DnB fix somewhere!

Can I ask how sure you are that that is the Jamie xx spot?

Not 100%, just putting two and two together…

He’s said he’s playing a secret set and there’s a “DJXXYZ” on the line up.

Makes sense (to me at least).

OK ....

Thursday:

Plan 1 - stick with bands at Strummerville (Hworms, Maruja, FatDog) and end at Bimble for DogShow

Plan 2 - Glade Dome for old school d&b and then Eli Brown

Plan 3 - Shangers bimbling including DogShow & Ishmael Ensemble

Friday:

No flippin' clue and I'll get back to you

Saturday:

Glade all night, probably from Max, into Leftfield, Hawtin, Lens and onto SEC. It'll be Genosys first and Blawan to finish.

Sunday:
Prodigy and Temple. Simple!

More news as I get it.

I know this has been spoken about before, but one thing I'd love to see is longer sets.

60 minutes just isn't enough. Sometimes theres b2b or even b2b2b sets doing 60 mins, DJs turning up to play 4-5 tracks is madness.

90-120 min sets should be standard.

Wanted to give a shout to Riria as not seen her mentioned here yet. She’s playing Firmly Rooted Thursday and Greenpeace Saturday and I will be at one- or both. Her Boiler Room set from a few months ago is a great watch and the crowd are their own sideshow - so into it with almost no phones out

Coudlnt agree more!

The b2bs for an hour is silly, more a fun gig than a gig to express yourself and create a journey for the crowd - which id vote for the latter everytime.

Finally managed to get five minutes to have a proper look at the timings. Some pretty hefty clashes but here's who made the cut for my electronica schedule*.

No doubt I'll pop my head around every stage at times but here's who I plan to see.

Thursday

Fabio & Grooverider - Glade Dome

Calibre - Glade Dome

Randall tribute - Stonebridge Bar

Friday

Daniel Avery b2b Imogen - Glade

Four Tet - Woodsies

Skream - Greenpeace

Goldie b2b Special Request - Levels

Palms Trax - Arcadia

Origin8a & Propa - Kinetic

Saturday

Amelie Lens - Glade

Blawan - IICON

Sunday

Adriatique b2b Carlita - Levels

The Prodigy - Other

Shy FX b2b Eats Everything - Arcadia

KI/Ki - Temple

* taking work shifts into consideration and very much subject to state of disarray

I think there are at least two factors at play here:

1. The programmers are catering to a hugely diverse crowd, in terms of the different experiences festivals goers are looking for. Some are hardened ravers, looking to replicate their best club nights on the Farm. Some are occasional go-out-out-ers, who know what they like but are less obsessed with the nuances of the scene. Some (many) are those who only really do this sort of stuff when they're at a festival, are not really into dance music, but like getting mashed and jumping around, once in a while with their mates. On that basis, Glastonbury kind of needs to cater for all of these sub-groups, as best it can. The result? Creating a programme which will frustrate 'us', more than others. That means lots of shorter sets, to add variety and cater to the short-of-attention-span tourists. It's hard to argue against that, objectively, I guess.

2. I'm going out on a limb here, and not intending to be in any way disparaging; happy to be shot down: I think that a lot of the genres that are so prevalent at Glastonbury don't really/typically/often lend themselves to long sets. What I mean, is that there's no real 'need' to create a narrative that mandates a minimum of 90mins (too short IMO...). Please correct me, but at a typical, 'proper' DnB night out, are many of the sets more than 90mins? Contrast that with techno (I know, I know...!) where a huge part of the experience is the narrative journey on which you embark with the DJ. It's interesting that the few sets this year of 2h or more seem, on first glance, to be techno-orientated. Obviously (not being a d*ck here...), Berghain sets are 'never' less than 4h long. Why? To be uber-cool and elite? Well, yes, as it's Berghain, probably a bit, but it's also an integral part of the DJ's relationship with the crowd during a set. The other Berlin clubs will also usually have 3h sets etc.

So, there we are! Ben Sims getting only 90mins is annoying. KI/KI getting 60mins is a disgrace! And they would rarely (ever?) play such short sets in a club. But, as much as we love it, the Farm isn't a club.

Solution - curate your nights as carefully as you can, kids, to optimise every moment on the dance floor. I wonder if Blawan's mouth-watering 2.5h on IICON is his way of saying sorry to me...? 😆

Hopefully an okay thread to ask this on...does anyone know if the Georgia playing on the Flying Bus on Saturday is the Georgia of It's Euphoric / About Work the Dancefloor?

Asked a similar question when their poster came out.  Didn't get a consensus other than "possibly" unfortunately! Leftfield are playing Glade on the same night, so as Neil's daughter it seems like a reasonable punt. Question is whether she'll be doing a live set or, more likely, a DJ set.

Having said that it's still not down as a tour date on her website so who knows!

That's not what festival sets are all about though, a festival set should be like listening to a greatest hits album - all killer no filler - then stay for the next DJ or head to another stage for more of the same.

Basically the same concept with the bands on stage - I'd expect 90 min - 2hour sets if I was going to their gig but at a festival will be looking at 50-70 mins for all but the headliners. I do think the Arcadia line-up looks a bit schizophrenic this year with too many personalities (Think I counted 7 1 hour B2B sets) and at least 1 longer set would have been nice, but with that said I didn't really have any complaints with Friday night scheduling when I was there last year which was 60/70 minutes for each of Joy O, Ki/Ki/Haai and Amelie Lens - energy was top from start to finish

I kind of disagree in regards to seeing DJs, and some of the best ive seen certainly havent been playing a 1 hour set or a b2b2b with 3 songs each.

I do agree with this if you go to see someone who plays their own tracks or a live act.

But for alot of DJs who play from their record collections i dont think its the same. It just creates this scene where DJs are forced to play heaters non stop, which I guess for some that is what they wanna hear but maybe not for others.

Long time listener first time caller, what do people think the situation will be like in the Temple after midnight on Friday?  When I have been before it has been much later and the queue has been manageable.  But the run starting with Oppidan at 00:30 through to ATRIP at 5 is stacked, particularly with Silva Bumpa and Bullet tooth in the middle of it.

Will it be complete grid lock trying to get in? Has anyone been before for particularly busy periods like IPC last year or Sammy Virji b2b ez? How long did you queue for?

This is exactly my target for Friday night afters. I've never queued more than 20 mins to get in to Temple but, tbf have refused to join anything that looked like gridlock or have chosen sets that felt less intensely popular. I think with anything that is a 'must-see' you've got to be willing to sacrifice something that is a 'like-to-see' - I quite like 'leaving on a high' anyway so will be shimmying out of Maribou State 5-10 mins before the end and heading very speedily to the SEC to secure a spot in The Temple.

There is no further news on it yet, but FloPo has lots on his Instachats about it.

Would I be right in saying all we know about this currently is that it will be plotted up in Silver Hayes and we don't really have a line-up (bar the odd social post, like Four Tet)?

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
