Underworld is a deffo though. Would go the Hacienda one but it will be rammed with pond life. 99% of the people in attendance will have no idea who A Certain Ratio are.

I used to love WHP but found the atmosphere at the last couple I went to a bit off putting. I don't really have a crowd for that sort of night around here anyway, unlike Glastonbury. 

Saying that, there's some lineups there that should be a good night. I'd consider Underworld but I'm off down to London the next day and it'd not like December's a cheap month!

Think the Four Tet night is really stacked. Probably go to that and already got tickets for the Aphex Twin night.

The rest of the nights don't really entice me to go, but different courses for different horses and all that.

He's done it once or twice before, most recently in London about four years ago i think.

Been promised accreditation for that one so just reserved a hotel. Said after i went last November that i was done with WHP but the new venue has pulled me back in

I was always a fan of D8 although I was never there at a sold out gig, apparently they used to be awful. 

Pepper and now wigwam is probably the best of off in Dublin. The button factory always gets a few good gigs and I've warmed to it as a venue since crowbar opened.

I might do the Underworld one, as it will be a gig on a Thursday - the bouncers shouldnt be as OTT. No chance Ill do a weekend night there

Think the tickets for WHP are going to be around £45-50 after fee. Really wish printworks would announce their schedule so I can make a decision about going based on that.

Seen Objekt in Tengu last year was absolutely class. Never actually been Index yet heard it’s decent for a techno night.

Does anybody have any good knowledge (or even better, sources) to impart on where's best to live for a music lover? I'm not necessarily entirely referring entirely to electronic music but I figured here would be a good place to ask as everybody seems pretty clued up on their music. I live in Glasgow but I'm interested in reading more about the comparisons between music scenes (in terms of pull for getting good gigs and lineups as well as how the area cultivates their own homegrown artists). This is equally for my general curiosity but also because I'd like to move around when I'm older and knowing I could find good music easily is very important for me.

It is very very subjective. Living close to Manchester has benefits and negatives. Everyone comes here, of any genre. Most gigs are busy. There are a wide variety of places to go and size of venue for live music. It's a lot cheaper than London.

Downsides. The crowds are a bit aggressive. Most venues I think are pretty shit (there are just a wide variety). Plenty of people around here think that Manchester is the centre of the world. Manchester for clubbing is shit. It has the WHP and not much else. There isn't really a scene any more. The WHP is a bit of a monopoly.

I have only lived here, so wouldn't comment on places like London that I have visited and enjoyed.

Got tickets for the Four Tet day, because the line up is great and price not too bad.

Slightly apprehensive after reading comments about WHP security and vibe though (never been there before)...and at 43, hoping not to stick out too much from the kids!
