could it be to do with the Emily Eavis interview in which she stated that people were predicting Foos and Fleetwood Mac were the Saturdays headliners, which is apparently 'wrong', and so AC/DC fill that slot instead. they're definitely not gonna be the Sunday headliner, so if Foos are Friday, AC/DC would be Saturday, and the final headliner Sunday (or maybe there's some actually evidence to them being Saturday and i'm talking out of my arse)

nope, you've about nailed it. :)

Nah, Saturday is Muse I've convinced my self despite Andy Copping's tweets :P

Glastonbury goes rawk next year, I can feel it! The locals are actually massive AC/DC fans and ask Micheal to get them for Sunday. Then Foo Fighters on the Friday.

Am I being really stupid here, as that logic doesn't rule them out of being the Sunday act?

The interview ruled out Foos for Saturday but not headlining another day and they do seem like one of the front runners for now. The Sunday headliner is usually the act with the most cross over appeal and/or suitable for the locals etc so, if it's going to be Foos - AC/DC - A.N. Other more poppy act, then the poppy act gets the Sunday. Therefore the only day left for the Foos is Friday. AC/DC Saturday. Elton/Swift/whoever on Sunday.

No it's not. That argument doesn't hold any water. There is no "pattern" that people talk about. The Verve headlined when KoL would have been the populist choice. Oasis would have been better than Muse for the locals, as would Springsteen. In 2011, anyone of them could have done and if you're telling me the locals were jumping for joy when they got Mumford and Shite instead of the Stones, then you're deluded. The "pattern" that the legend plays the Saturday night is also not true. Stevie Wonder, McCartney, U2 and The Who all bypass that in the last 10 years alone. The Who are "maximum rock and roll" and played there, so so could ACDC. Rumouring them on the basis of these two false patterns is bullshit.

In 2008 KoL were not a populist choice. They weren't the band they later went on to become. A big part of their success was getting that leg up at Glastonbury. At their peak, The Verve were a bigger band than KoL were in 2008. They had recently reformed and for the average Joe in the street had more sing along tunes than the other 2 headliners combined.

If you think the locals would've preferred The Stones to Mumford in 2011 then you're deluded - as that was 2013, not 2011! In 2011 it was U2, Coldplay and Beyonce and Beyonce is the most poppy act of the 3. 2013 was Arctic Monkeys, Stones and Mumford and while The Stones are undoubtedly the biggest act, and therefore got a coveted Saturday night slot, Mumford were writing songs that were getting into the pop charts (not that I personally think they should've headlined anyway).

I didn't mention "legends" headlining on Saturday, maybe take that up with someone who did, but I think the festival see that as their biggest headline slot. But since 2005 there is a pattern of the feel good sign along act of the weekend being on a Sunday - the exception probably being last year which was full off bump ups anyway.

Bands play according to what suits their touring schedule/the other acts the festival may have lined up for a particular that suits that bands touring schedule.

Its not a big conspiracy at all or any sort of pattern. (Although Micheal does seem to try to please the locals where he can, i'd doubt he turn them down if they couldn't do the Sunday.)

Like it or not, there is a pattern - else Michael gets abuse from the locals every time he steps outside his front door. The last time I'm aware of them giving him a very hard time was the year that Muse headlined the Sunday (because at that time, Muse were just breaking thru from being a niche-type act into mainstream).

The locals expect the Sunday to have a locals-friendly (mainstream, lots of hits) act. Michael tries to give it to them.

But Michael isn't able to put any act he fancies on any day, it has to be done with the consent of the band - and whether they'll play on the Sunday is influenced by loads of different things. For the likes of the Stones, they wanted Saturday; Sunday was not an option.

If there's total freedom within the bookings, Sunday will always have the most mainstream/poppy act.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
