Howay then efesters, where do I start with Tom Waits? All the eloquently written heartfelt posts on here have me thinking I'm missing out on something special. He doesn't seem the type of where a greatest hits would be a starting point.

Think Scruffy is spot on, Closing Time and Small Change for boozy balladeer Waits, Rain Dogs and Swordfishtrombones for junkyard hobo king Waits.

I would suggest heart attack and vine. It's a sort of cross between his normal jazz bar early stuff and his weird voice-fucked later stuff.

Then move backwards to closing time and small change and/or forwards to swordfishtrombones and rain dogs. After that just get any of them. If you like them five, everything's ace.

Nal will tell you to just go chronologically but I disagree.

Cheers Scruffy, it's a vast and intimidating catalogue. I recall having the same problem with Guided By Voices to the extent that I gave up. Sometimes there's just too much music!

Florence is on 6music with Matt Everrit or whatever his name is in a minute I think.

I missed it - she say anything interesting? (I mean Glastonbury-related interesting, not just random interesting stuff!)

No love for 'the hreat of saturday night'? Worth it for 'san diego serenade' alone. I'm not a fan of much post swordfishtrombones, really.

I love it, but it does feel like a weird curio in his back catalogue. I always skipped it until a guy I used to work with bullied me into spending time on it. Glad he did.

I didn't listen to it but the description on the 6music website mentions Glastonbury, albeit it's about her first appearance there. Suppose something could have brought up then. The interview seemed more about her early influences and career as a whole than just the new album so I wasn't expecting anything anyway.

You don't know that. I bumped into the pigeon detectives' roadies mother's dog's sister's owner and she told me that he was headlining either pyramid or west holts depending on whether or not prince turns up.

I'm gonna get that trending on twitter more than #naughtyboydonteatzayn.

Anyone else at work?

Nah, i'm having a beer and about to watch Brazil v Chile, Couchy.

I find it baffling that people at work post on here all day.

I have no internet access at work and we're not allowed phones in the building.

I spend ages catching up each evening when i get home.

But i'm off until Tuesday 07 April now.

GTFI!

My job primarily involves being on a computer with an Internet connection at all times, and being available to calls on my mobile, so I find the opposite bizarre!

I know exactly what you mean, but still to be able to post on a forum.

Edit - and yes, my work scenario is by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr the more bizarre. You wouldn't believe how fucking bizarre.

I'm making up hours at work & been offered overtime even though I am still probation. I'm drinking a bottle of pinot & watching the first series of The Inbetweeners

Work has gone crazy since all these plane crashes.

That's the spirit(s).

I spend an inordinate amount of time in the shitter at work reading history books to avoid the fucking highly ultra-intelligent fuckwits i work with who struggle to make their own sandwiches or do a tie up but can explain how the universe is 'infinite, but with boundaries'.

And none of them like football.

I have to be very sneaky at work, sometimes the students spot me on my phone and call me on it. My cover is that i'm sorting out the e-books (work in the school library) on my mobile.

Good skills.

So to drag this back on topic...

Madge - possible. Album out, whatever, has done 'one offs' before touring.

Stone Roses - only likely due doing fuck all...which is now apparently their M.O. given history.

Swift - purely on the basis that if she doesn't Martin might implode in some physics-defying middle-aged-human-large-HardOn collider type accident that will swallow the cosmos in a black hole creating a schism in the space-time continuum from which we will emerge into a teenage-all-girls-school-based universe of pop music, ra-ra skirts and boob tubes. And Martin. In leather.

P***** - because we know approximately fuck all.

Radiohead - 'cos it's about time if Coldplay can do it again, which they were, but aren't now, but if they did, it'd be wrong, but they aren't, so it isn't wrong...but Radiohead should.

Oasis - due to Liam's massively reliable tweeting.

Kylie - due to an upcoming chat show and its the 30th anniversary of Neighbours.

Have I missed anyone?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
