Hence the IF I popped in the post Matt!

Your right glasto doesn't revolve around Radio 1 and I think we're all thankful for that but given they chose that outlet for the Kanye announcement it's not a stab in the dark to think they may choose that for the next one.

I like the theory that the line up will drop before they remind us to pay up so they can mention it in the email and potentially calm anybody still agitated by Kanye.

Surely next week is too late to be reminding people they need to fork out all their money, I bet most ticket holders couldn't tell you exactly the payment window right now, so they'll send the email tomorrow with the line up tonight.

This is the only thing stopping me from thinking it's next week, and it's a strong, compelling argument. The balance payment reminder email is already overdue and unlikely to be left until after the weekend. It will probably be sent today or tomorrow, and given the fallout over Kanye it makes absolute sense that they'd want to reassure everyone with more names.

Not all reminder emails arrive at once and I recall some being received as much as a day later.

So, line up tonight, emails tomorrow and over the weekend, payments next week.

I don't want to encourage excitement unecessarily but that is a very plausible scenario.

did the radio have anything to do with last year;'s announcement when it was dropped at like 7am? i always just go to the lineup page so the radio announcements go over my head

IIRC BBC 6 Music said the night before there would be an announcement and then they revealed it on the Friday morning

Just a thought, if IOW are announcing a headliner that's not even at glastonbury why would either be effected?

If they were announcing the same band I could see why Glasto would hold back longer - but as it looks they aren't. (Afawk)

because a Glastonbury announcement, regardless of who's on it,would totally overshadow any announcement made by IOW - even if they've got some mammoth headliner. not like Glasto to be so petty. they don't need to be. they'll let IOW have their moment to shine for a few days, and then overshadow them next week

I think just out of respect for each others festivals and so one doesn't overshadow the other.

Maybe there's a gentleman's agreement in place? I'm trying to think of any major festivals that make announcements either on the same day or the previous/next day and for the life of me I can't think of any. I'm sure they all talk to each other and share anticipated announcement dates so that they don't overshadow one another

Exactly, you never know when you need help from someone either.

also, had a thought this morning - Neil mentioned that he'd heard that IOW and Glastonbury may have some kind of an agreement over an act this year; wonder if that could be The Prodigy? co-headlining IOW, headlining Other at Glastonbury. probably not but they're the only act i could see both festivals needing to come to an agreement over (although Neil said the whole 'agreement' thing may be bollocks so there's also that)

I don't think even glastonbury put as much thought as to when they release the line up as you guys do.

No matter what time or day they drop it, it will circulate on media outlets and social media. I think they may just be playing nice with other festivals and band announcements.

It could be, I had a mad cat notion they could be bumped up the headline G but that's unrealistic, although Pharrell could also sub Kanye?

Thought 'the story' involved Fleetwood Mac

Why would the IOW announcement matter? Glasto has already sold out so the only people that care about line up are the ones already with tickets?

because as has been said multiple times already, announcing it at the same time overshadows IoW.

they're likely, for courtesy reasons, so give them a 24hr PR cycle for their announcement.

they might not, of course, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do...
