Metallica 2014

they'll maybe (unfortunately) throw in their cover of Whiskey In The Jar at Glasto i imagine, but beyond that, people came to see a Metallica show - not a 'Metallica cover songs by your favourite band' show

I'd like to see them cover a fair Pendulum songs tbh :P

I had a listen to Metallica Through the Never to start me off getting past just the big hits. Was pretty decent even if it went a bit meh in the middle but then you hit this home stretch to end it:

"Master of Puppets"

"Battery"

"Nothing Else Matters"

"Enter Sandman"

"Hit the Lights"

"Orion"

It won't be Fleetwood Mac. Not even a minute chance.

Foo Fighters played Glasto in '98 and Queens in '99, '02, and headlined the Other on Sunday in '11.

I think the point is that they're bands worthy in terms of status of headlining the Pyramid, but there's always been something holding them back. If we're correct in assuming that it's the Eavii's fear of heavier stuff, which has now seemingly been eradicated - or is at least being trialled against this year - then there should be no reason they're not booked to headline in the near future. Particuarly with the Foos probably making a 'live comeback' in the UK next year, and having already done Reading last time they did the rounds, a Pyramid headliner slot at Glasto '15 would not surprise anyone I don't think.

hadn't seen the second one though, and that looks pretty definite. poo :(

the 2nd one was before Emily ruled out Prince, so the possibility of FM having been re-approached in light of John's recovery can't be ruled out by those.

But anyway, it seems like the Eavii have gone for the first no-brainer to find themselves a headliner and not the 2nd no-brainer, as it's easier moving an act you already have than acquiring a new one.

So 99% next year for the Mac then :(

\m/ Fantastic bit of news and yes seems more logical as I bet they have a few acts they could lineup for the other stage, does that mean you think they are not waiting on Prince anymore?

A Bonnie Tyler/Metallica collaboration would be much better than the Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration btw. So we need to push for this now.

That was a great collaboration. Everything you want from a Lou Reed/Metallica album. Weird, offputting and unique. Not something I listen to a lot though I'll admit. But I gave it a few spins at the time.

If headlining, I'd expect a lot of people to watch a few songs and then leave.

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't the smallest Pyramid crowd we have seen for a while by the end. Depends of course on what is on elsewhere..

As for being a good booking as it will encourage Eavis to book more heavy bands - I'd say it has the potential to do the opposite, and put him off further..

If they do their 'By Request' thing for Glastonbury as they are doing for all other 2014 shows then I guess it could potentially be like a hits set that people might enjoy?

If its a headline set theres only so many "hits" they can play before they'll have to play other tunes. No matter what happens 50% of the set is going to be proper heavy metal.

Which is the concern for Joe Spliff Smoker.

    • When do we get stage times through? Also, how close are we to full lineups for the Lorde and Deftones dates?
    • I would assume that Sabrina will be their plan B if Madonna falls through.
