I believe that at some point, in one of the 56,000 different headliner plans that Glasto has tried to put in place for this year, Metallica were planned to be the Pyramid headliner. If that's actually true, it seems like their deal with Soni screwed that up.

I've no idea where things stand around Metallica right now, but it seems to be the case that Glasto don't have a Saturday headliner in place now, and nor do they have anything in the running as likely.

Which has brought me back to the idea that another attempt to get Metallica to do it might happen. Outside of that then perhaps it'll be phone calls to those who favours can be asked of (you can fill in those names yourself).

I guess Elbow are the last resort headliner for Glasto if they really have no Sat headliner.

If it was Metallica, i imagine they would be announced well after the ticket resale for glasto has gone and it's impossible to get more ticket for it, so as not to hinder Sonisphere sales. The Sonisphere/Glasto corssover would be minimal crowd wise: i doubt there will be many people going to both regardless of Metallica playing..

Because it's kinda weak?

because that would be awful

edit: beaten to the punch

Arcade Fire, Elbow, Kasabian looks like a pretty weak set of headliners - i don't think anybody can deny that. Metallica may not be what you'd expect from a Glasto headliner, but at least it's something a bit exciting, Arcade Fire, Elbow and Kasabian is as beige a set of headliners as you can get

It's all a matter of opinion.

It would depend on the under card as well.

Get Glasto back to basics should be about the quality of the music not the size or how popular the band are. (can dream)

Not sure where kasabian fit into that...

March and no Saturday night headliner? Um - isn't this leaving it a bit late?

IIRC at this point last year, there was one nailed on headliner. I bet Worthy Farm are laughing compared to this time last year. Wouldn't be surprised if they'd all gone on holiday.

There's currently two nailed on headliners, one of the biggest acts in the world confirmed who could headline at a push, one of Metal's biggest ever acts looking very likely, and one of the biggest selling acts in the world ever looking (albeit slightly less) like they are potentially playing.

Dolly and The Eagles. I went back to edit the bit about The Eagles cause perhaps likely was over doing it slightly. With regards to Dolly, the only real argument against her being able to headline is she would be shit, but I'm sure there's people who'd disagree.

I think you may be over-selling her slightly for that environment, but I yeah I get the point. She's a big name.

This thread just keeps on giving btw, utterly brilliant reading it all together watching people's opinions change.

Oh shit.

Coldplay are releasing a new album released in May.

 I thought the same when I read this after hearing the new single and annoucement this morning but hopefully we are not there yet!

After 12 years people need to learn that the Strokes are lazy and their live sets are always going to be lazy.

I saw them do a warm up show when they first "got back together" and done IoW.....they was actually pretty lively then!

I thought they were surpringly tight and engaging at Reading a couple of years ago by their standards, although that still falls way below most other bands.

They only signed Rolling Stones a few hours before they announced the line up last year,

I think people forget on here is a very narrow minded view of the festival audience, I've spoke to quite a few people who are not obsessive glastobaters and have suggested the idea of Metallica headlining and they are quite up for it, they see it no different to that of Jay Z headlining,

There isnt any proof that they did, infact most places (even here) were saying there were sure the Stones were headlining a week or so before the announcement.

I think people are just putting 2 and 2 together here and making 5. Prince seems to be dead in the water so people on here are saying "there is no Saturday headliner booked then" when the fact is Prince's management and Emily Eavis has been saying for weeks now (even months if you go by Emilys tweet earlier in the year) that Prince wasnt happening so its more probable that the Saturday headliner is already sorted.........and has been for weeks.
