I was just watching a video of fun lovin criminals in 1999 I think and the crowd is really active

I'm wondering why the crowd at glastonbury is a lot less like that anymore, you'd never see that at the other stage these days.

I think people just don't go crazy at gigs anymore. Most gigs I've been to in the last 2 or 3 years have been like that, with the exception of The Wedding Present and Suede, where most of the audience was a bit older anyway. Shame, loses the atmosphere, maybe the iPhone generation is scared of making a tw@t of themselves in case it appears on Facebook within seconds:-(

Dead simple as the one that most people know as the Pyramid stage burnt down in 1994

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/areas/main-music-stages/pyramid-stage

they were using a temp stage and then it was

replaced in 2000

Shame really as I was able to stand on the old stage but have never stood on the new stage .

those years where there was a lot of gatecrashers were a right pain in the arse as it

was near impossible to move anywhere as it just was too packed - I was lucky as I had access to the backstage compound so was able to move about but for ticket holders it must have been a

huge hassle + there was a big risk that MDC would pull the license.

More genuinely though I think there's been a huge change in audience from those who love the music so much they'll put up with all the festival challenge, who'll get sweaty and dirty, to now those who want to go do the Glastonbury thing and turn up for all the big bands whether they know them or not, hoping to be on the big screens and looking good while they're at it, as long as they can be pampered and have a chair and blanket

It feels much less involved at the main stages now, can still be pretty wild at lesser known non pop acts but the seas of people who can't be bothered to do much more than hang mostways back in the masses of chairs speaks volumes, as does the incessant chatter until the tunes that got radio one playtime come on

When I started coming one of my biggest joys was the vast majority of each crowd seeming to know every word of the acts I saw, all serious fans. Now it's relatively rare. When half the crowd down front aren't sure who is even playing they're not going to go wild

Hard to avoid when the nation's biggest tv channel and radio station promote it as the pinnacle of British summer events to a vast audience of xfactor fans, much as channel 4 may have shifted the crowd the new coverage has changed the festival for ever

    • The first half of that game was cracking but then I fell asleep at half time. Maybe that's just the momentum of things.

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
    • Word of advice, your work-life energy balance should be 60% energy for work and 40% energy for life. If you're drained after a day's work, that is something you should strongly look into. Especially if it is solely due to work.
