I brought up the prospect of a 2015 Bjork set being downbeat in the context of Vulnicura being a really fucking bleak and heartwrenching breakup album.

I've been listening and reading a lot about Vulnicura this weekend, trying to take in the lyrics, reviews , and interviews etc, and whilst i absolutely love it, it is sad and dark and i wonder how it would be performed. She has a lot of shows in New York in March and April and the Festival in NY in June, but this dosen't neccessarily point towards any further gigs or festivals abroad, it's probably too early to comment and probably there are are other tour dates to follow, but i have a sad feeling that after only just finishing touring Biophillia around the world that this may come too soon? I hope for all it's worth that i am wrong though.

I've never understood the argument about 'not wanting to finish a day on a downer' etc I remember a few people I was with in 2013 missing The xx for those reasons despite being big fans, the same with Portishead on the Friday - I know some people who went to the Pyramid becuase for them the headliner needs to be full of energy (AM jokes aside) - but then all of us met up in the SE Corner that evening anyway? Surely thats the end of the night? The bit around 11pm on one of the main stages is just an interlude? Just an observation I have made over the years when I have seen people bemoaning the Sunday night headliners across the stages.

Spot on, though I think a lot of people do go back to their tents after the headliners.

Portishead was one of the most uplifting things Ive ever seen, funny to think of it as a downer!

Yeah I spent the entire time at Portishead grinning like an idiot - easily one of the best things I've experienced at Glastonbury or any other festival for that matter.

I remember watching the Arctic Monkeys set on TV then keeping the highlights on afterwards, I had never heard of Portishead and then they came on playing Machine Gun and absolutely blew me away, can't imagine how good it was when there! On topic, I have recently got into Bjork so am holding out she will appear somewhere on the lineup!

I've never really listened to Bjork before, but I cracked on Homogenic at the weekend and it blew my socks off. Absolute quality. The only downside is the remix at the end which is nowhere near as good as the version on the Chris Cunningham video

Difficult to put into words how great Portishead were, especially as the crowd were all massively respectful of the performance where I was and the sound (in front of the sound stage) was absolutely perfect.

I would love for Bjork to play, if she doesn't then I would imagine she will be touring at some point and will definitely be getting tickets for it having missed the BIophilia tour a few years back.

Indeed, Pitchfork gave Homogenic 9.9 out of 10, i presume because of this, i prefer to watch the live version she did in New york to get the real version of "all is love"

For some reason they deleted that review...

I'm not quite sure why tbh

Seen Radiohead the other year and Thom started singing Unravel before going into Everything In Its Right Place, I got goosebumps it was magical

They've deleted a fair number of their early reviews, mostly for reasonsm of amateurish writing or wildly overenthusiastic scores that, retrospectively, don't quite stack up.

Unsure why in the case of Homogenic its certainly deserving of a massive thumbs up review.

Lets be honest though, eh, Bjork hasn't really bettered her first album, has she?

(Edited for fat fingered fuck-knuckledness)

Presumably you mean her 2nd, confusingly titled 'Debut'. I really like all her albums, but I do slightly prefer the older ones. Without going into full on Radiohead-style full list, my top 3 are:

1. Post

2. Debut

3. Vespertine

So, yeah. Older stuff. But it's not an Oasiseque severe drop off of quality.

Obviously a wind up post, unless you haven't heard Homogenic or Vespertine yet, though i'll give in if you think Debut is her best, different strokes and all that.

Nope, no wind up, genuinely think Debut is the best thing she's done. I'm a pop kid at heart.

Indeed you are correct Sir, sorry Mardy you do mean Post and not Debut, gets me confused that :)

Didn't she do Glastonbury in 2007 as a precurser to her european leg of her world tour for Volta? Perhaps she'll remain true to that, i'm figuring a Jools Holland performance then in the next series

Mine would be , in a radiohead - style full list :)

1) Vespertine

2) Homogenic

3) Vulnicura ( i think it's that good , though it could be because it's in my mind right now)

4) Post

5) debut

6) Volta

7) Medulla ( though not overly listened to it, it didn't grab me, though i might go back and have another listen)

8) Biophilia

Medulla is definitely worthy of further investigation. I'd place it just behind Homogenic and Vespertine.

Medulla is the undiscovered jewel in the cannon. It isn't in anyway immediate, but is incredible. I struggle to listen to some of the first two records now and get an awful lot out of them.

For me, the golden quartet is (alphabetical, rather than ranked):

Homogenic

Medulla

Vespertine

Vulnicura

...the last of which has already shown itself to me to be bloody fantastic. Dark, yes. Pained, yes. Heartbreaking, yes. Ticks all my boxes...but then I'm hoping The Haxan Cloak gets a set of his own this summer!

Not listened to the new 'un yet, but besides that, I'd say Ghandi got it pretty spot on there (if I had a penny for every time I use that phrase...).
