Wouldn't be surprised by something like:

Mumford & Sons
Ben Howard
Bastille
All Time Low

Panic! At The Disco
Of Monsters & Men
Neck Deep
???
Arcane Roots

Metallica
Bring Me The Horizon
Royal Blood
Brand New or Don Broco or Gerard Way
Pierce the Veil

Lower Than Atlantis
Four Year Strong
Marmozets
Issues

The Libertines
Kendrick Lamar
Jamie T
The Maccabees
The Cribs
The Enemy
???
Lonely the Brave
???

Found it hard to think of lower bands atm as most I would have expected are on lower stages. Any thoughts?

Don Broco, The Enemy, Lower Than Atlantis, Billy Talent, The Gaslight Anthem, Architects are all bands I would expect to be added to the Main Stage.

Miles Kane too, I think he self confirmed to someone on here. Saw him at AM in Finsbury Park last year and he was actually surprisingly fun. Would fit well on the Sunday w/ Jamie T, Libs etc.

Kerrang tour was WATiC's only shows of the year over here.

Maybe Architects instead of them, then.

Does anyone know when the next announcement is going to be? I have a feeling there'll be one in mid March, when the line-up is usually announced, with these additions to the Main Stage.

Way back at my 9th Reading fest. Seem to recall prodigy and beastie boys were spoken of as co headliners and the latter kicked up a fuss about Smack my Bitch Up

Was a brilliant year that, bands added at the top end of the bill when Phoenix was cancelled.

& NME headliners not so long ago.

Exactly my point regarding Ash, Reading slowly started pushing them down the bill instead of putting them up, Yes their second album people didn't like it as much because it was heavier, they tried something different, had Download been around, they probably would have taken a high slot there that year, don't forget Ash were a rock band breaking out in the UK on the back end of brit pop, people wanted to push them into an indie pop route but they wanted to go more rock, so they eventually went a bit more pop side of rock with the 3rd album and it went to number 1, sold out tours but they still didn't get pushed back up the line ups and eventually they fall down the bills more and more, same with Feeder, same with many acts, look at what happened with Travis, they were huge, headlining fests, now they play half down third stage. Charlatans are another, I mentioned Manics, theres so many, I don't understand why we have a problem keeping big UK acts big in this country, yet US acts come over and maintain their status, look at Smashing Pumpkins coming back over and still headlining years back, if they were a UK act I know they wouldn't have gotten anywhere near that slot.

Going back to Manics, they're a real weird one, they sell out tours, their albums go number one still, even sold out an arena tour, yet they're never in with a shout of headlining a major festival, why is that? Why the belief they aren't good enough? I don't understand why Andy won't book them for Download, I just don't yet he booked Skunk Anansie and gave them 3rd from top and now won't touch them either. Skunk Anansie headlined Glasto! [yes they filled in I know] Ash headlined in 1997! [another fill in] Pyramid stage. Both of them.

If Linkin Park were UK based they would be treated with the same regard. Im certain of it.

Massive meh from me on the line up! Bit gutted I was hoping it would have filled out nicely, the bands I like I've seen before/will be other festivals...just nothing there to stand out and say come along really.

Could posibly be tempted by the Libertines day nearer to the time, depeneding on if I've seen some of the undercard at Glastonbury or not.

what? Yes you do. It's simple supply and demand. If you don't believe that just look at We Are Scientists. US band, emerged in the US, toured like a UK band, fell down the lineup. It's obvious. Edited by Yellow_Fellow

Fourth down main for bands like Ash and Feeder. Slots they deserve. These are proper festival bands who are great live and could easily play a set list full of crowd pleasers, much like Madness did a few years back.

Anything lower than subbing NME for these kinds of bands is frankly insulting.

There. I said it.

I've seen that too, totally pathetic imo. Nobody gives a shit any other year.

It's worth looking at, don't you think? People have cared for a long time - I remember doing a write up for last years disparity. As we're becoming more Feminist conscious it's likely more noise will be made about this sorta thing. It's better to get it at it's roots tho.

It is quite odd. They still have a pretty huge fanbase, and The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go in particular are always regarded to be up there with the great 90s albums, but these days they'd be lucky to play 3rd at Reading and Leeds.

I guess maybe it's because their fanbase are the sort who don't really do festivals, and they don't seem to get great crowds at festivals. I remember seeing them headline the NME Stage in 2008, off the back of Send Away The Tigers which had gained them a fair bit of hype having made a comeback from their hiatus, and the place was half empty. I know they were up against The Killers who had drawn a huge crowd, but compared to when their contemporaries like Blur, Radiohead and Pulp have played festivals and they don't seem to generate half the excitement that those do.

It's a shame because if they ever headlined a UK Festival like Reading and Leeds again (no chance, despite how they're no less worthy of it than say, Pulp), they'd absolutely knock it out of the park.

Worth considering yes.

Also worth considering -

How many female fronted bands are there which are actually any good?

How do we know that the likes of Halestorm and the likes weren't contacted and busy

If we single out sex, what about Skin Colour, race, sexuality etc etc
