Lineup 2015

Recommended Posts

my thoughts on this years lineup:

some great and inventive acts like: Rebel Sound, Deadmau5, Kendrick Lamar (although I'm not a fan), Limp Bizkit etc.

Bring me the Horizon are not a sub-headliner, i really like them and think they're great live but would be better suited to that at Download, think it could lead to a bit of a backlash at reading from its current clientele.

BBK headlining dance stage. wut? as someone else mentioned, surely that is what the 1xtra stage is for? waste of a slot if you ask me, even though, again, i do quite like them.

Special guest MainStage predictions: Alt-J, TDCC, Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Florence?

Special Guest Dance: Jack U, Dog Blood (something skirled related due to his SW4 announcement, but not just plain Skrillex), Major Lazer, Fatboy Slim?

Either way, theres is more than plenty there to get me a ticket...even though every year i say ill never go back....

Worth considering yes.

Also worth considering -

How many female fronted bands are there which are actually any good?

How do we know that the likes of Halestorm and the likes weren't contacted and busy

If we single out sex, what about Skin Colour, race, sexuality etc etc

Plenty. But let's not pretend quality gets you booked for festivals?

Good question. Fair analysis. But, that doesn't even nearly count for the disparity. Not even nearly.

Yeah, what about it? You'd actually find a lot more black and asian musicians here this year over say, 2005, because of the more focused push into dance and hip hop. Sexuality is probably well represented - 90-98.5% of people are straight.

Exactly my point about the sharks... Almost...

Lots of factors here, who looks at a line-up and decides there's not enough women? It's ridiculous.

Also, I frequently contact the woman from Halestorm, but she's always busy, so... Maybe she's too busy to play Leeds too?

It's not worth pointing out. It's just another PC "let's get offended on behalf of something" shitstorm in a teacup. How many disabled musicians will play? Or Pakistanis? Best we make a quota then. Enjoy paying £200 to watch a load of shit bands that no one has ever heard of. I'm sure there ARE barriers against women succeeding in indie and rock but it's those that should be addressed, not attacking a festival that just puts on what the fans ask for.

In TV land, pretty girl with talent does an audition, does well in X factor and gets a record deal. Voice coaches and technology take care of everything else. Teens buy it and everybody is happy.

In the real world, to succeed you've got to spend shit loads of time practicing and doing gigs in places that 6'3" and 18 stone of me wouldn't be happy going to. When your daughter shows interest in becoming a musician which path do you send her down?

Halestorm are awesome live. Seen them 6 times since accidentally stumbling in on them at Download 2010. Seeing them again next week. I can't understand how the likes of Paramore get so big when Lzzy Hale has so much more talent.

Well if I'm reading it right you'd not encourage your daughter to become a musician by merit of her being a girl, which is absolutely disgusting.

Read it again. With your "whatever is trendy to be offended by this week" goggles off.

Absolutely amazing live. One of the few female fronted bands I've seen live that are better live than recorded.

Their cover of Slave To The Grind is superb.

I agree that it's an industry-wide problem rather than just a particular festiva. But I think it's also true that the aspiration of many more young girls is to be Beyoncé or Gaga and admired than peforming at rock fests to a load of dudes. It is beyond my mental capacity to think of a way to switch that and probably stretches beyond the music industry itself.

I'm not doing your own clarification for you. And lmfao at pretending feminism is this 2010's fad. Okay buddy. Pretend there's not a problem all you like but your opposition aren't gonna.

I take it that you and your activist group will be boycotting all festivals that don't have 50/50 M/F line ups now that you are aware of this savage injustice? Or will you pretend to be outraged and then be a hypocrite?

I agree with this. A band will be booked because of the quality of their output and the bookers actually wanting them, not because of whether they're male or female. I don't see the point in such a big deal being made out of it this year specifically.

It's a fair reflection of the industry, but crucifying R&L for it is totally inappropriate

Man you hate having your man spaces challenged.

I disagree about Bring me the Horizon not being suitable for the festival. Virtually all my mates like them even though some are not normally fans of that genre of music. I'd argue Metallica are the band on the line up that stand out the most as not fitting in with the clientele. Festival goers are getting younger and younger (on average). I reckon the majority of Metallica fans are 30+yo. I'll still be there though :P
