I would have thought they'd just bump Editors up and give them a lovely long set instead of roping a shite replacement in as whoever they would have gotten, it'd never have pleased anyone tbh but at least with Editors, people were going on the day to see them. Nobody booked tickets for bloody Lily Allen.

Melvin didn't invite Modest Mouse back, so he'd better not invite TDCC back next year. I realise that the Mouse decided to just cancel the tour, apparently for shits and giggles, and TDCC guy has been struck down with illness (I want to buy that illness a pint btw), but that still doesn't change the fact that Modest Mouse's songs are excellent and Two Door's are shit.

Lily Allen  would have been a bad replacement for me if I was going and I actually don't mind TDCC but I don't see them coming back next year as FR will probably want them for R&L.

Also why would Editors have gotten the bump? What ever your opinions are towards their music they're defiantly not big enough. Even though I prefer Editors (even if I thought The Weight of Your Love was a bit boring) it would have been poor and at Lily Allen is big enough (I guess).

Editors have a very wide following and have proven themselves as headliners across Europe - I know, Europe is different etc etc etc... but it does show they clearly can pull off a headline worthy set. Putting that aside, they have been on the bill the entire time - therefore they will have fans there, and a lot of them I'm sure as it's their only UK festival of the year. Lily Allen has already received loads of hate towards her being the replacement, therefore I don't think she'll get the size of crowd that Editors would have.

That is why Editors should have been given the bump.

Yeah if I was off then I'd probably be not really bothered about switching TDCC out for Lily as I wouldn't watch either, although I slightly prefer Lily Allen. The annoying thing though would be that it feels like they're slowly shifting demographics or something. Probably just me overthinking it.

I don't think Editors getting the bump up would be that great an idea - Allen would still garner a bigger crowd, and is much closer to TDCC's indie pop. Editors are (sadly) on the descent in the UK and possibly even the weakest of the three subs so I doubt they're gonna have a massive following there. I think Slowdive are gonna draw quite a few away from their crowd actually.

Editors are not headliners of a festival this size in the UK, it's as simple as that. They don't even sell out academy venues anymore.

I assure you there would have been more people complaining about being ripped off had they simply bumped Editors instead of finding a replacement, than there are complaining about Lily Allen.

FR found a replacement that's bigger than the original headliner at very short notice, like her or not, that's not up for debate.

Totally agree, I'm a big editors fan but to bump them up in this country would only of been the cheap option.

Should of got lumineers to headline..

I don't mind Lily Allen, although when I saw here in an arena few years back she was very poor.

But they're the weakest of the three subs. Lily, The Black Keys and Damon could all play arenas no problem whilst Editors struggle to play academy venues still. They're on the decline here and even though they're worthy headliners in Europe it doesn't mean the UK. Yes they will still have a crowd that wanted to see them there and Lily could be described as a surprise act (more in the fact it was announced late sort of thing) but I'm sure she will draw a bigger crowd that The Editors as she is quite big. Also if Editors were given a bump it would have felt like the cheap way out.

You're probably over thinking it. They needed someone to replace TDCC quickly probably

I left the festival on Sunday afternoon due to this being the 3rd weekend out of 4 in a tent but.... highlights....

Damon Albarn + lightning and rain = awesome (plus managed to grab a setlist)
Mogwai!
James (despite being delayed a day and on a different stage!)
Arthur Smith sings Leonard Cohen pt 2
Oh and Pappys in the Literature tent on Friday night who were hilarious again with t'other half also being dragged on stage for a sketch :D

Yet another great weekend despite being forced out of our tents too early every morning due to the heat! Roll on 2015!

Had a great weekend but don't know that I'd go back again now I've done it, just too bloody far away and not enough on the line up to my tastes. I would recommend it to others though.

Highlights:

Dingus Khan in The Alcove - nuts but brilliant. Mosh pits, crowd surfing, stage invasions, dance routines, all for the lucky few hundred in the tent, best part of the weekend.

The last half hour of Damon - I'd enjoyed it up until then, but the two Blur songs (including Tender with a guest appearance from Graham Coxon, pop pickers), Clint Eastwood and the two best songs from his recent album PLUS a magnificent light show courtesy of the lightning and the accompanying down pour took it to a whole new level.

Booker T - Green Onions in the sun, perfect.

Comedy Tent - LOADS of great stuff, too many to list.

Lowlights:

The nine and a half hour journey to get there, including the final excruciating 5 miles.

Not being able to take in your own booze. I know this is the norm but not at any of the festivals I've been to recently, man it drains the pockets. Having said that, if I'd been prepared, I'm sure it would have been pretty easy to get stuff in.

The people in the next tent who talked loudly until 7am ignoring all requests for them to shut up.

lovely festival, but i wish the 'special guest' wasnt hyped sooo much..although rudimental were quite fun, atmosphere on obelisk stage was very odd, never known a stage where you can get so close and still be able to sit in a chair! also most of the people sitting at obelisk seemed more interested in hool a hooping, juggling, chatting etc...if you wanna do that fine, but i dont get why you dont go somewhere else to do it...some people had literally ZERO interest in the bands playing

That's one of the things I love about it, that it's so relaxed, if you just want to sit and check out a band you've never heard of while you eat lunch, you don't feel guilty about chatting through the dull bits. If there's something you want to see, you can stroll right up to the barrier, people at this festival dance and understand that a crowd doesn't need to be a massive squash. I think it gives it a lovely atmosphere that people seem to enjoy dancing like they're squiffy at a wedding disco, rather than the bobbing up and down on the spot thing you get everywhere else. I loved seeing people arrive at bands they didn't know and just start throwing out shapes. Ibibio Sound Machine and Atomic Bomb were brilliant because of this. Last year I lay down at Grizzly Bear, feet pointing away from the stage, could clearly see the stage in the top half of my vision, and the rest was filled by clouds, it was lovely. The main stage is just a focal point for people to go and meet up, they take kids with them who understandably wont give a monkeys, it's so easy to be right up the front if they annoy you.

I'm quite impressed they actually got a replacement headliner at such short notice. I think people expect too much, if they'd had just bumped up Editors and stretched out everyone's sets they'd have got critisism for taking the cheap option. Finding a replacement headliner of acceptable size and similar style/demographic isn't very relaistic.

agree with this, getting someone as big as lily allen was impressive, you could argue she was actually a bigger booking than TDCC

any reason why the cup replacement thingy isnt used at other fests? thought it would be great for glastonbury, also thought the seating works well as you get alot of people seated without taking up too much space...suspect this might be more difficult at bigger fests tho

Fully agree with the cup scheme. Very little litter compared with Glastonbury although the impact wouldn't be so great with most people drinking their own booze at Glastonbury.

I do think though that if there is less litter to start with at least some people would be less inclined to dump their rubbish on the ground.

    • Someone said something along the lines of "the lows were really low but they highs were really high" and I think that sentence sums up my ps experience this year. Thursday was a downer (even though I got to see men I trust, geese, oklou and fcukers), but the weather, the missed shows and the uncertainty (those comms...) made it a bad day. Friday and Saturday on the other hand where rly good, a bunch of amazing shows each day (The Cure one was quite something), that surprise on Saturday...   Will be back next year, hope they get another impressive lineup as this year (quality and quantity wise) and that tickets and  primarily hotels don't get much more expensive.
    • Rosalia Radiohead NIN MGMT Bjork David Byrne   Also Vince Staples' new album is cool. I could see him returning.
    • If we are guessing then I think it's   Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls   Weezer   The All-American Rejects
    • Everyone who was there has said how amazing it was so makes the excitement grow even more.  The XX and actually Kneecap were both very good too.     Roll on 3 weeks time
    • Fallow year merch not for me... I'm not interested in celebrating this occasion - in fact I think it's stupid 🙂    Covid wiped out 2020 and 2021 so we should have another year or two before the fallow, in my opinion.  Probably a bit late to change their minds now though!
