Latitude 2014

I'm not going, but I've just got an email saying stewarding places are available again from 4pm today if this helps anyone:

http://www.oxfam.org.uk/stewarding/apply

Would love but just cannae afford it really.

My friend did stewarding at Latitude a few years ago, after he'd done a couple of years at Leeds, he said it was so much nicer than Leeds that you couldn't even compare the two. The Leeds shifts he did were complete drudgery, just a necessary evil to get a festival ticket, but the Latitude ones were as enjoyable as the festival itself. Just thought anybody considering it might like to hear a testimony.

Good to know! I think I'd quite like to give stewarding a go and this seems like one of the nicer places. It's just all the extra expense of travel etc so hot on the heels of Glasto that I can't quite stretch to right now. Maybe next year.

Have an awesome time :)

Thanks, and it'd be nice to have you in here speculating about Bjork and Portishead and Neil Young with us in a future year if you do decide to give it a go.

Must sees; Royksopp & Robyn, Kelis, Lykke Li, Mogwai, James, Prince, Booker T. Jones, Nils Frahm, Slowdive, Atomic Bomb, Slow Club, Goat, First Aid Kit, Future Islands, The Phantom Band, Summer Camp, Henning Wehn and Josie Long

Excited to check out; Conor Oberst, Teeth Of The Sea, Ibibio Sound Machine, Hall & Oats, Parquet Courts, Josiphine Foster.

Wow, writing it all down like this has made me realise how insane the line-up is, and this is without theatre, poetry, literary and FOOD! It's going to be a very very full weekend

Very little music wise for me. Looking forward to Billy Bragg, First Aid Kit, Goat and The Jayhawks plus a few others that I'll catch if I can such as James, The Black Keys and Damon.

This is probably more my problem than the festivals because I genuinely have not heard of the majority of the acts. I was going to start investigating once I got back from Glastonbury but have decided sod it, I'll just go where the mood takes me and see what crops up. I could well miss some amazing stuff but could also discover my new favourite band.

Having said that, the comedy line up looks brilliant. It'll take some doing to get me out the tent for most of the weekend.

It'll take some doing for you to get in.

So I've heard but then a few people I met at Glastonbury told me as long as you go in when the less known ones are on before, you'll be ok for the bigger names. I dunno, go with the flow and see where that takes us is the motto for the weekend.

The soil's sandy in that part of the world, so it's traditionally well-draining. Most years there's just a bit of churning by the arena entrance, nothing more. The two wet years were 2011 and 2012, 2011 was a lot of water over the weekend and there wasn't enough chipping down so carparks were mudbaths and the paths turned soupy. 2012 had 6 weeks of rain beforehand, and rain over the weekend, so they were better prepared, but nothing could prevent the churn-up.

Cheers.

This year's Glastonbury finally killed my already patched up wellies so they have been sacrificed. I now need new ones but could do without spending any more money at the moment. Sounds like I may be safe to go without (kiss of death).

Another Latitude virgin here. Only found out we're going today so mega excited. Only ever been to V fest before so really REALLY looking forward to Latitude. Seems much more a festival I will enjoy.

Looking forward to Damon Albarn, The Black keys, James & Paul Heaton. But who should we be checking out lower down in the line ups??

Any recommendations??

For spme reason, whilst i obsessively plan for glastonbury, i am very relaxed about getting ready for latitude... Including wet weather preparations - though this may be mis guided as i've never been to a reallt wet one

Check your tickets, peeps! Excitement of tickets arriving this morning quickly dispelled by SEE and their legendary incomptence. One ticket instead of the two booked and they'd even managed to get that one wrong. Upshot is I have to return it recorded delivery before they can dispatch the right tickets. Twats!!

    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
