2014 Headliner predictions

Based on my very unscientific gut feeling about the current level of their popularity. Informed slightly by the fact that they drew the smallest main stage crowd I've ever seen at Leeds 2010. And they'll have been away for good few years by the time 2014 comes round.

I'm pretty sure Arcade Fire have ruled themselves out for Glastonbury ever again, and I agree they're fractionally too small now to headline.

I reckon three of the following: Daft Punk (too big and too 'crossover' now to play a dance stage), Led Zep, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Stone Roses. Michael Eavis is talking 'legends' so we are talking world-famous, platinum-selling etc etc, at least for the Saturday

If Rihanna was to be listed as a headliner it think my love for the fest would take a massive hit.

She epitomes what is wrong with the modern youth musical interests. A horrid, greedy thoughtless yolk.........she is so far removed from anything that the festival used to hold strong as an ethos and that it now aspires to have these days.......

Scott And Charlene's Wedding, The Twilight Sad, Sarafina Steer, stick that on the telly and the twitter and see how yr demographic shifts in 2015, eh?

isn't it always the case that one headliner drops out and they get a newer younger act to headline?

I reckon if Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Arcade Fire are the headliners, Arcade Fire will drop out and rihanna or lady gaga will headline, however I think rihanna would be more glastonbury then lady gaga.

it's a good job there'd be loads of other alternatives then. I'm fairly new to this Glasto thing (3 festivals) but 2011 proved to me that pyramid headliners are not the be-all-end-all.

On another note, I don't think it'd affect the demographic so long as the line-up is announced after the tickets sell out. If they announced Rihanna and then the site became overrun with 16/17 year olds (Reading and Leeds, anyone?) then yes - there might be a problem/I could see why that would put people off going.

Hopefully Plant and Page will have seen the Stones and realised there is kudos to play - JP Jones already has 1st hand experience this year - so Led Zeppelin.

posting here or not about it, putting up the info I've known for months is not my highest priority right now.

Running my business in the best way possible is - which if I don't do, it won't be here for your entertainment next year. This site costs £6k a month to run; in these busy months it's doing less than that. So efests is fucked right now - it won't be here this time next year as things stand - and that's of far more concern to me that your selfish little wants, OK?

Now, back in the adult world where people have weighed up and worked out their priorities, I'll say again, I'll tell you soon-ish. If that's not good enough for you, oh well, fuck off somewhere else where they won't tell you anything at all about next year's headliners.

Has everyone seen William Hill's Glastonbury 2014 headliner odds?

Kasabian makes sense but i don't know why Foo Fighters are in at 8/1, so many other bands are more likely.

Anyways, i'm putting some money down on a few

Arcade Fire - Surely this has to happen, would make a fantastic Sunday headliner, Glastonbury is the last big thing they haven't done here, new album out soon, at 25/1 those are pretty good odds

Fleetwood Mac - Eavis said there was someone sort of legendary so for me it was a toss up between these and the Stone Roses, and seeming as these guys are always rumoured i thought they were a safer bet

Florence + The Machine - Obviously very speculative, but at 50/1 it was worth sticking a couple of quid on. Who knows, her next album may be massive and everyone has talked of her as a future headliner. And she was there this year, stood behind us during the crowd for Jessie Ware!

What does everyone think? And have any other betting people stuck money on?

I wonder if Kiss have ever been approached. They're another band famous for their love of cash. But, having seen them a few years ago, I think they'd do the business.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
