Mumford, QOTSA, Arctics

Calling it now.

I don't think it'll be both Mumford and Arctics. V and IOW need headliners too.

I should think QOTSA and Metallica could both simultaneously headline. But if not I'd say Stone Roses to replace one of them if they're still about.

I think Mumford will be there. They know they have a huge fan base at R&L and playing V next year which would no doubt be an exclusive then waiting a year to headline R&L just doesn't seem right. There will be more Arena shows in between and take the seeing factor away a bit. For this reason, my own view is that the Arctics are out and could well be the IOW's The Killers from this year with their own dates end of this year as well. That'll be two years running that IOW have a headliner yet to do it.

I don't think it'll be The Stone Roses. I think these days will have rode their reunion as far as possible without a new album.

Blur I'm calling, should they not do it this year, they may have a new song or two by then, may not, who knows. I don't think they'll need it mind.

Metallica/RATM - If Metallica announce their album finished in time, I'd lock them in my prediction.

Arctics off the back of a Glasto headline slot & (yet to be confirmed but surely going to happen) arena tour is totally R&L's style.

I'm quite happy to say it'll happen. I don't have confirmation with me but as efests think it probably will and two a band member let on. Another guy was also pictured with Nick so it's very possible and the info changed soon after the guy came on here.

Any band doing Glasto headline this year is going to be in huge demand for other pay check festivals next year on an exclusive. In Mumford's case, they have the arena tour sold out easy, in Arctics case, the album to come out I reckon will see the arena tour end of the year time.

Of course, there is the alternative thing that IOW grab Mumford and R&L Arctic's but I don't see it that way.

Most Glasto headliners normally headline/play other fests the same year and plenty of their headliners don't pop up at fest the following year.

R&L will have a Glasto/TitP/arena selling headliner the year after as an exclusive despite most people having seen them the previous year.

eg Muse, Foo Fighters the past two years

Yup, and the least ideal one would be The Killers. It'd mean R&L getting them after a Hyde Park show, a two date V Fest show, their own arena tour and T/Wembley Stadium (which I know they sold out, but still.

Mumford & Sons - Played only one uk show last year and was high up in scotland, new huge album, arena tour no issues, T, own mini festival that I can only really see mostly southern england fans going to in all honesty. Even if they do Glasto, it's sold out so demand still be there and UK Exclusive

Arctic Monkeys - Been away since 2011 if I have that right? T, Oxygen and V slots with ending UK Arena tour. Glastonbury appearance likely- like Mumford, still demand due to it's sold out anyway.

These two I expect to hit R&L and IOW. As much as I think R&L would prefer the Arctic monkeys overall, my hunch would be Mumford & Sons. One reason for this is also that T could be in the frame to get the monkeys back again next year - 3 years is long enough for T and they very often share a header with T which won't be Mumford next year.

I would say Arctic Monkeys are the ones i would defo go for. Not too sure about the others, would love QOTSA to headline but that's totally dependant on venues they play / album success. Mumford & Sons will be likely if QOTSA don't headline. Also, Metallica / Green Day possibly could do the Sunday night.

I'd argue that Mumfords' fanbase will prefer the acts at V to those at R+L, and V goers will welcome Mumfords more warmly than R+L.

Stone Roses do have a new album out later this year, it won't be ready in time for this Summer so they'll be hot property next Summer, which I imagine would be the last chance, they could go for the biggest audience or finish The Stone Roses at R+L properly this time. Saying Stone Roses won't play even though they're bringing an album out then saying Blur are nailed on because they 'might' have new stuff is beyond me Gazza.

I don't know what that stuff about The Killers meant. They won't be playing.

Mumfords demographic is r&l's. (Am I allowed to mention hoodies and floral headbands?)

YouTube statistics say they're most popular with males 35-44 and females 13-17 or something. V has acts like Inspiral Carpets and The Stranglers whilst also having Labrinth and Dappy.

Besides, R+L has a quite heavy following of fickle indie fans, a genre which specialises in dropping support bands once they're quite big. Mumford and Sons are huge, and the demographic's parents are probably big fans. If they're not losing indie cred now, they will be doing by next year.
