so many better drummers around than grohl, I just dont get it

flaming lips' stephen drozd is nearest thing there is to john bonham these days. That's a fact, and he doesnt even play drums for the band anymore

matt barrick of the walkmenis miles better than grohl too

Hes a guitar player really. The drums came later. So he plays drums like a guitar player would. Very chunky and loud. Even his fills are loud! But he borders on Bonham parody a little too much for me sometimes. A lot of the Queens of the Stone Age stuff for example. And I love The Queens of the Stone Age.

i used to love Foo Fighters. used to be one of my favourite bands. but then i grew up. i'll still sing along to their songs if i hear them, and when they release a new album i'll download it to see what they're upto these days (usually the same as always) but i think they're definitely more of a 'band that got you into rock music' than a band that you forever think are fantastic. as you grow up you just kind of realise that they're, well, not that good

not sure how this got onto a "Dave Grohl isnt as good a drummer as this drummer is" argument. Don't think anyone was making the point that he's the best drummer in the world, as he obviously isn't. He has however drummed on some fairly legendary rock records, and is a great drummer.

I don't hate the guy. He seems like a genuinely pleasant chap who's always happy to take the time to chat with the people who put him where he is today.

I do, however, think that his music is a prime example of mediocrity hailed as genius. FFs have roughly five or so unstoppable bangers and a slur of average tunes that seem to be parodies of said bangers. That's my view anyway.

    • When are  the stage splits ??
    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never been the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them after Thursday & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
