I do however think that looking at the past lineups glastonbury is slowly opening the gates on more rock/punk/metal acts. Last year we had Pendulum subbing main stage, QoTSA as the other headliner, Biffy and gaslight anthem on the main stage, Jimmy eat world on the other stage, Flogging molly headlining Avalon and King blues in the dance village. It may not be to everyones tastes but that is a darn sight more bands than previous years. Plus Deftones and enter shikari are hardly the Stoner/ Desert rock of Qotsa and they have played before.

there have always been heavier acts dotted about Glastonbury, you just need to look out for them

i agree that SOAD are more than that, but honestly, can you actually imagine SOAD playing Glastonbury? i can't. they'd seem so out of place. despite Glastonbury being one of the biggest festivals in the world, some bands are just better suited to other festivals, a-la System to Download and Reading and Leeds

Allow me to reply on his behalf... He's obviously used the persistent Arctics rumours for the Friday and coupled it with the fact that Dizzee obviously won't headline but has hinted at playing, has recorded a tune with Arctics, and looks like he could be subbing them at Beni. Married that with an assumption that the Stones will eventually accept the offer to play that we all know has been presented to them, threw in the fact that Florence thinks she has an affinity with the festival and recently come out for 'Gimme Shelter' at one of their shows. He tails off a bit on the Sunday but both Mumfords and C&S are rumoured to be somewhere on the lineup so I suppose it's not too ridiculous, though unlikely, that one would sub the other.

Its a terrible line up and as things stand don't be surprised if Florence is bumped up to headline the Pyramid one night, perhaps the Sunday. I've not really got anything against her and have seen her live twice at the fest and once at Ally pally, she is good live. Some here hate her but for a Sunday i reckon she'd go down well. Not the giant act people might wish for though.

To the poster who said SOAD aren't any heavier than QotSA, I express how much I disagree with this statement.

I would go as far as to call SOAD a "metal" band and QotSA a "rock" band. This seems incredibly obvious to me, system are simply much heavier. Vocals, guitar tone, faster riffs chugging away on the low end....

Rage Against the Machine are (maybe) planning a tour. Black Sabbath were trying to get Brad Wilk in to play drums but Geezer Butler said they can't get him because "Brads got some commitments with Rage Against the Machine".

Sabbath without Bill Ward. For fucks sake.

    • Have a great festival to those that are going, I cant wait to get there tomorrow!
    • ah i get ya.. Yeah I hate festivals that have that barrier and front section. Roskilde is gonna be the same, which I'm not looking forward to navigating. Like you say, you end up missing other stuff having to get there dead early. Luckily there's not much we're arsed about on at Roskilde though so that wont be such an issue! hahaha
    • Not directly my expectation but my wishlist   - car seat headrest (it has been way too long these guys did Europe) - death cab for cutie - new constellations - interpol - bush - swimschool - suede - the haunted youth (should have been there this year) - flipturn   and oh yes Yumi Zouma can come any week, day, hour but this is a personal fetish with this band

    • Broco have European dates in Czechia and Slovenia the day before and after so I would be shocked if it were them, despite them having no other UK festival presence this summer.   Bilmuri are a shout as I don't think it'll be someone massive.
