2013 Headliners

Daft Punk are robots, The Chemical Brothers and Orbital are not. Robots are cool.

I'd agree that Wireless probably paid a bit for them but Rockness isn't a big festival and 2007 was it's first full year and Daft Punk only headlined the second stage so I doubt they were paid that much.

Wireless would have defo had the money to pay a bit. That's true, but RockNess has surely only gotten bigger in the last 6 years it'll be?

I wouldn't even rule out Gobal gathering getting them, they did have them in 06 before Wireless and that. But if Daft do do Wire and RockNess, a slot at Glasto for peanuts wouldn't be that far even though I can see them have a cause that no tv coverage gets shown, purely due to the money side.

I have an inkling that Lady GaGa isn't going to play. Every single year before the tickets get released we get people that are absolutely convinced that a band is going to play then it turns out to be duff info. I reckon if Michael Eavis things that it was a bad decision to have U2, Coldplay and Beyonce in the same year, we'll hopefully be getting some less conventional headliners next year. I know that there's also a quote somewhere of him saying that he'd like to bring back the freedom of the 90's so maybe we'll get some classic headliners from that era. That would be something.

My prediction at the moment is...

FRIDAY

Lady Gaga

The Black Keys

Suede

SATURDAY

Arcade Fire (If Rolling Stones play, chuck em here with Arcade Fire subbing)

Biffy Clyro

Daft Punk

SUNDAY

Radiohead (Though this for me is unlikely)

Jack White

Tinie Tempah

Of course this will be completely wrong, but ah well!

Yeah I agree however they have to tailor it more towards a younger fan base now which I think has became evident in the last couple of years. The younger generation will start to become the committed fans who go year after year

I really enjoy following the debates on the next years line up.

The end result doesnt bother me as I am happy to leave myself in the trusted hands of the Glastonbury organisers and I will go regardless but the thrill of the chase in debating the future is sometimes better than the catch.

What impresses me is the how secret the actual bookings are kept.

Do we expect any formal announcements before Ticket day?

The reason I think Radiohead are unlikely is that they're touring The King Of Limbs at the moment, which didn't go down very well with the audience on the Park Stage, let alone on the Pyramid. I'd love them to do it, but I think they may be put off at how it was recieved last year.

Wouldn't that be a show-stopper? Who was the last headliner at Glastonbury who wasn't on TV? I remember Eavis saying that was a stumbling block regarding U2, and if it stopped a band that size getting booked it would stop pretty much anyone

I think they'd be petrified to come back to Glastonbury again, for your point, but even more so for the constant ridicule they get from one of the posters here on E-Fests, forget his username, but he has the Steven Tyler pic on his profile, The Nel, or The Mal or something like that.

An act refusing TV coverage certainly wouldn't be a show stopper from the Festivals perspective - they've always allowed all acts to control if / what / how much of the set gets shown.

The most recent example that comes to mind is Neil Young in 2009, apparently the decision to allow some coverage was made at the last minute, and even then it was a fraction of what other acts generally allow.

The year before, albeit in the Sunset slot, Leonard Cohen refused to even allow his set to be taped let alone broadcast.

yup - whether an act is broadcasted or not is a separate negotiation, done on behalf of the festival by a business called Glastonbury TV.

So theres no impact on a headliner being booked and wanting/not wanting to play on TV?

What happens if all 3 potential headliners refuse to appear on TV? Would Eavis have a rethink?

As far as I'm aware there's no impact on a headliner for not wanting to be broadcast.

I'm not sure what might happen if all three headliners didn't want to appear on TV, but I guess that the beeb would keep increasing the money on offer to those bands for being broadcast until one or more caved in, or they'd choose to go and film other acts on other stages instead - after all, Glasto has more than enough stages with famous-enough acts on for it to not really be a problem.

The beeb cover Reading and T as well and didn't have a problem with RATM refusing broadcast of any of their set in '08. I don't think TV coverage is any where near the be all and end all (that is the experience of the people in front of the stage)

It's not necessarily of any relevance towards Glasto tho - a festival will have contract with a broadcaster on particular terms. The terms that Glasto have are not necessarily the same as the terms that Reading has.

I don't really mind. As there will be something on elsewhere, and if not, then it's glastonbury, ill go for a wander.

In 2010, i got Muse and that was amazing.

In 2011, i didn't really get anyone as a headliner, but got treated with amazingness off Barenaked Ladies, and Kool And The Gang on smaller stages, and it was stunning.

Gimme Frank Turner and Beans on Toast (9 times again, please) and i'll be happy.

But i expect Gaga, and something from Arcade Fire/Pulp/Radiohead/Stone Roses and a shock no one thought would happen. I really don't think Stones Roses will, if previous years are to go by, Anything Michael Eavis says, usually means it won't so, we'll see!
