Making it all about cost of living, which is all very well, the VAT cut will help, but they have used that up now and will have to find a way to pay for it, and what else can they do, more tax cuts? Meanwhile...that Strait of Hormuz remains clogged...

Also, the digital ID thing is silly imo...it was just something to link up government databases, simplify it for them and us, was nothing to do with papers please or whatever...and Starmer just magically made it toxic and now its in the bin until some future government dares to have a go because the current system of multiple databases and IDs for different things is a mess.

Yeah when i looked at the details for this - it did not seem like they would be getting any information that they did not already have.  I think the invasion of privacy that people beleived they were fighting against was lost a long time prior to these IDs being announced. 

 

It was funny As Reform wanted the ID's still Starmer said it then they suddenly hated the idea....

Just because she is the culture secretary doesn’t mean she has final say on matters in this area, just as the defence secretary doesn’t have final say on anything defence related, she is a representative of the government. If there are moves to go after GB news that is likely happening higher up the food chain.

There's a difference between having the final say and doing the leg work for the cabinet to actually make the decision.

 

She hasn't done the leg work on any of this stuff.

As someone in a senior role in one of the sectors under Nandy, I can confirm she is useless. There is a universally low opinion of her. Both lazy and useless are widely accepted adjectives. 
 

It doesn’t matter which of the three sectors I’m in, both of the others think she’s useless too (apart perhaps from elements of the media bit who are quite grateful for her inactivity). 
 

Private Eye regularly report on this. Seek people out on LinkedIn who work in culture, media or sport (particularly culture and sport) and you’ll fairly easily find critical comment. Or, if you prefer, search ‘Nandy’ on the social media of your choice. 
 

Her reappointment rings alarm bells for two big reasons. Firstly, how can anyone look at her ‘effort’ or record and say “more of that please”. Secondly, culture, media and sport are things we’re actually decent at and generate ‘UK PLC’ significant income, soft power and influence. Keeping Nandy signals that’s unimportant.

Apparently there's a sizeable chunk of Labour, the Starmtroopers I guess, who are very f**ked off. So, that faction might not be on board with all this. The reshuffle was pretty factional I guess...

Ultimately he was always going to want people in his cabinet who he felt he could work with and trust, as Starmer did, as they all did. It's still pretty broad, but if you were loyal to Starmer then you can just f**k off.

Darren Jones is rumoured to be setting up a Starmerite Parliamentary group. I was surprised he got rid of so many. I'm glad to see the back of Lammy though - Labour's Chris Grayling

God. I quite like Darren Jones for reasons I'm not sure but what the f**k is he hoping to achieve?

He'll just end up like McDonnell...someone you have on tv to groan about the govt but no actual sway to be able to do anything. Maybe that pays better.

Think generally he’s been astute so far, smells more like he’s setting up for an election, possibly an early one. He’s not rocking the boat too much, just made a few of the worst crew walk the plank.

 

Wait for the midterms, trump can’t do anything anymore, gets impeached, inflation? ”DOWN”. Etc. Farage comes unstuck. You’ve given the public a little taste, then it’s all devomax, renationalise water, electoral reform in the election campaign and there you go, Britain is saved.

He can be, decentralisation and constitutional reform are the answers, he just might not be able to deliver them in two years. But the promise of that and some things trending positively in the meantime and he might just persuade people to give him a mandate to do the big things in the next election. I hope so.

 

I don’t think he is, but I personally couldn’t give a sh*t whether Burnham himself is in the end on the Labour right after all, if he does decentralisation bigly, and constitutional reform, he’ll be the greatest prime minister in my lifetime.
