I honestly don’t think they could have got it through, as soon as Labour called it the dementia tax it was toxic. I’m starting to wonder that it would take government and opposition to unite to ever sort it out, but what opposition will be willing to take the hit.

I hear you but every single proposed new tax gets a pejorative label by the opposition (and usually the press are happy to call it that too) so by that rationale no new tax can ever be introduced.

What you need is a government with a big majority to just flipping do it.

If that is true they are bascially admitting there are a load of young people on disability benefits because it pays better than minimum wage so the solution is to train them in a skill that pays better than minimum wage and that will make them want to get job.

The problem is it makes sense for claimants to do it. On UC you get a load pf hassle to spend hours applying for jobs you don't want to do. Once you get the limited capacity for work there is more money and they leave you alone. Fixing it by offering training or paying an employer to take on low skilled workers costs more money in the short term. They probably need to set up something like Remploy again.

True but it's a specialised thing. Only really suitable for the long term physically disabled.

The main issue is the cost of opening up disability benefits for those who don't have physical disabilities. It's squeezed out some of those with the biggest needs.

Personally (as physically disabled) I don't  find the system not too stressful. I have to reapply periodically (it's just paperwork) but have never had to go to an in person assessment, thank gawd.

I hope the media remind Farage about his support for Lucy Connolly

The hypocrisy and double think is insane.

On the one hand, Connolly should be allowed to incite violence in the name of free speech and Farage platforms her.

On the other, any behaviour he classifies as similar is disgraceful.

He has to pick one or the other.

Badenoch doing a press thing with sad looking victims and families of victims of criminals who could be released on the early release...but fundamental problem is that Labour inherited a prison system that is full, so yeah we can lock them  all up and thow away the key, lets just build more prisons, the more the merrier, would be popular with Joe f**king Public and that's the important thing, as long as these new prisons are nowhere near where they live of course.

Still pretty f**king stupid of Polanski to post that.

Do we know if he did it or someone in his office?

Party leaders surely aren't manning social media accounts or they'd never get anything done. And interns f**k up sometimes.

It's also extremely credible that he glanced at the set of images, didn't notice the t-shirt in the incendiary one and approved it on that basis. Again, surely he's spending seconds on retweets for lack of time in the day.

I'll see if I can dig out the article (I think a substack) but I remember reading that Polanski spends a lot of time on social media himself, including searching his own name and replying aggressively.

Fair enough. Doesn't mean that he doesn't sometimes outsource.

It's extremely believable that Polanski/his aide saw a bunch of incoming photos of a Green Party linked event and without scrutinising each one, just hit accept on the share.

Certainly it's inconceivable to prosecute someone for accepting a retweet of a shared set of pictures that anyone could reasonably expect to be harmless.

he does seem to quote any article with even a brief mention of him with something like "oooo the billionaires are scared"

The article could be about declining badger numbers in Pembrokeshire

Green support now at it lowest since Zach took over. He does seem to have made too many c*ck-ups now.

Wouldn't be surprised at a leadership challenge in the near future.

Greens are great on policy - Zach is very marmite (like Corbyn was). I find him too 'performative'. Much preferred other leaders.

The double think and hypocrisy is exactly the same on the other side. If Nige was retweeting and the top said Zak the Green supporters would be rightfully outraged. Criticism against someone on your side doesn’t need to result in deflection because the other side are bad.

Come on if it’s the other way around you are not looking for excuses. You are just saying it’s wrong.

News todY is that jodrell bank is going to be shut down due to spending cuts 😭

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y6r9rdxygo

This is sad, but inevitable I guess. The type of data generated by Jodrell is widely available and shared within academic/science communities.

I wonder if that means the site will never be used for festivals again. Or likely they may offer it up for some sort of development - something like AMRC in Sheffield may be appropriate.

I don't like Polanski at all but I still think he's better than Ramsay + Chowns would have been. What an utterly sh*t choice that was.

Farage has a long history of incitement.

Polanski does not.

Courts look at character when they reach decisions.

On the balance of probability, especially when accepting a 'share' of multiple images from a third party that included a photo where the words 'we're only making plans for Nigel' are in a tiny font, he or his aide simply didn't see that aspect or the image.

It's a mistake but not malicious. We are human, we make mistakes.

actually, I think I agree with this...but Polanski (or whoever) just needs to be a bit more careful, not first time he's got in a bit of bother with sharing posts.

I don't have much of a problem with Polanski, see his appeal, and for a while Greens were doing incredibly well relatively under his leadership and may well do again in the near future when everyone starts to f**king hate Burnham.  Not my cup of tea of course being a zionist neoliberal boomer centrist dad...but its nice for the woke kids to have someone.
