I think the structural shape of The 1975 on a Friday, Olivia Rodrigo on a Saturday and Sam Fender on a Sunday works too.

I think it’s a well matched trio, and does eliminate a risk of there’s being a total bomb headline set a la SZA. 
 

That being said, I’ve always viewed Glastonbury as the place to see the biggest and the best acts, who sell out stadiums across the world.  I’ve been fortunate over the years to see Adele, Paul McCartney, Radiohead, Coldplay etc and you walk away feeling pretty chuffed after those sets. The only critique I have of those 3 is you’re lacking that type of act.

 

Rodrigo is on the cusp of being a global stadium sell out superstar, and providing the 3rd album doesn’t flop she’ll get there. I think both Fender and The 1975 deserve their shot, but can understand why it would be perceived as a weak trio. 
 

I’m hoping for something spectacular coming out the blue, but if it doesn’t I wouldn’t complain about that trio. And possibly leaves the option for some really strong sub headliners which I think has been lacking in recent years.

Glastonbury don’t necessarily take into account an artist’s popularity elsewhere when making the booking. Whilst no doubt it’s great to secure an international superstar, not all their headliners are going to fit into that category. They’ve had plenty in the past that were not so big overseas at the time (britpop lot, Manics, Kasabian, etc). Whilst it is very much an international festival which attracts punters from all over, obviously the majority are bought by brits and an act like Sam Fender would be popular and attract a decent crowd

Echo this. If they have secured a worldie, then fair to them. But this isn't exactly a criminally undernourished trio either.

Agreed, seems a tough year for bookings, but think Glasto has the pulling power to get the right act (if they’re willing the pay the right price however). I seem to remember Liam Gallagher being rumoured for this year, might be going mad though, but the reunion would’ve scuppered those plans at short notice. 
 

AC/DC apparently touring the US next year, think they’d be a good booking taking O Rod and 1975/Fender into account. 
 

I think there’s people out there, who aren’t Muse and Sheeran, but very slim pickings this year. I keep feeling like Green Days time will come each year, and whilst the Download appearance isn’t billed as an exclusive I don’t think, I can’t image Glasto being keen on booking them if they’re at download a couple weeks prior.

I think Glastonbury in even 5 years time will be a struggle to what it is now as if they are struggling now that's not going to become easier as time goes on. The festival will stop becoming the big thing it is to play.

If that rumour about Ed playing in a non-headline spot next year was true then it would massively help alleviate concerns about things feeling small time, without a headline spot going to waste on him. Win win.

Agree, very much hoping for this. Get a Nick Cave or Paramore in and things automatically look stronger than last year, regardless of opinions on the headliners.

Muse would be a bit bizarre, surely their time has past.  Feels like the headliner of a smaller affair.  O-rod could be justified on grounds that she is on the up, female artist, etc.
