All I remember about the strokes was they sounded OK and then Pulp came on and made them look extremely average.

Reading/Leeds 2011?

I was there, but too young and pissed to remember.

Same, immense where we were and excellent crowd. One of the best days of my life, a splendid 24 hours of debauchery and my first time seeing them after years of waiting!

[Edit: even if they didn't play Take it or Leave it, or Trying Your Luck🥲]

Yeah, Trying Your Luck and Heart in a Cage are two faves, but we were similarly debauched...but only for 12 hours 😄

We know The Cribs are headlining Woodsies now, so that's one out of the way 🤣🤣

I thought that post says they're playing in the afternoon? I interpreted it that one of the other acts mentioned in the post, probably Wombats or Blossoms, are the headliners.

Ah yeah just seen. That's what I get for not reading every separate thread before posting 😂

Such a weird thing to post stuff like that. What a sad little life Jane.

It's Olivia Rodrigo, Sam Fender and Rihanna, but it's actually a fake-out, and each night the Bad Seeds storm the stage to play one of the late-era trilogy in full.

Push the Sky Away on the Friday, Skeleton Tree on the Saturday and Ghosteen on the Sunday, followed by an extended encore of From Her to Eternity where security all don Warren Ellis disguises and perform synchro dances.

With reference to the Strokes conversations, I saw them at Reading and Leeds when they headlined in 2011 and it was not great, however the output form the band wasn't at its best at that time either.

I saw them last year at APE and i thought they were fantastic and lets face facts, their most recent album was a cracking return to form.

Seen them start of 2020 and thought they were brilliant. Julian as usually completely blocked and trying to smash the drum kit with the mic stand.

Thing is, if it's not Stevie or Eminem or Rihanna (with the latter two having given the finger to the paltry fee) then there aren't many other names in the vicinity that scream Glastonbury headliner.

I dunno if they'll want a re-run of last year where they hoist someone up a level and it doesn't pan out

Maybe we've been too hasty to write off Green Day.

Similar thoughts rattling round my head.  Who is active/available/established enough to comfortably fill that third slot?

As in 1995, as in 2025. It's time for Pulp to save the day.

They were on my list of possible candidates.  As were: -

  • Stevie Nicks
  • Depeche Mode
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Billy Joel
  • Eurythmics/Annie Lennox (massive swing for the fence with that one....)

Chaka Khan probably not mainstream enough.

Have said many times that I'd love Billy Joel, but for the last few years he's kept to a remarkably consistent pattern of "at least 2 weeks between shows" - so unless he's prepared to vary that the Liverpool show the Saturday before Glastonbury would seem to indicate that he's not on the table.

Not gonna pretend I'm not intrigued by setboppoys's post.

I looked at the history and thought there, 'Did they not confirm the headliners for last year before they were announced?'

Then I remembered how absolutely obvious the headliners were for a while before announcement.
