The Idles hate is hilarious. Half of you guys would have been creaming over them a couple of years ago in the big top but now they've had a couple of hits they're sh*t 😂

If it helps, I've always found their modern brand of Gary Bushell Oi! punk  working class-adjacent rebellionism to be a bit embarrassing. Even more so in the environs of  Larmer Tree Gardens.

Clack-clack, clack-a-clang clang

That's the sound of the gun goin' bang-bang...

... And watch out for the f**king peacocks!

That said, that it is just me and if other people like them, great more room at other stages

The Idles discussion is just quite dull. I think it is perfectly fine to discuss the artistic quality of headliners, but with EOTR 100 bands clashing with each other, and clashing with other great festivals happening in the UK on the same weekend, one band just doesn't change much in the bigger picture. I am now curious about who are Idles, but I'm not sure I've learned much (never heard them before).

It's all just getting a little snarky in here. Play nice everyone. We're all going to have fun at a fantastic festival.

Exactly this. I actually quite like it if there's a day when there's no headliner I want to see - I can wander through the enchanted woods, enjoy some of the great food & drink, sit by the fire & chat to fellow festival goers. It won't be the case this year though - I'm spoilt for choice with the headliners!

Apologies to everyone if I came across as snarky - I've been given a sh*t job to do at work & I'm in a bad mood!

Is it time to start speculating on who might be in the next wave of announcements?

My wishlist includes:

Sheer Mag
Yard Act
Helado Negro
Chromeo
Gossip
Sacred Paws
Girl Ray
Marika Hackmann

This is going off upcoming releases and I haven't done any tour schedule research 🙂

Id say most of those are too big tbh. I reckon Sheer Mag, Sacred Paws
Girl Ray and Helado could be in with a chance

Ffs, it's just one act out of over 100 acts announced!

There's a few acts announced that I have zero interest in seeing - same as every single year. I don't come on here to "express disappointment " just 'cos I don't like them! It's pathetic.

Curate your own festival if you want to love every single act on the bill.

It's hardly pathetic, and they're one act out of four headliners, so it should be expected to get more comments than bands further down the bill.

(For the record I don't even think that's the case, most people are delighted with the smaller acts and discussing it. I find posts like yours a lot more cringe than people simply saying something like "idles is a poor headliner")

important message from the topic police:

To keep on topic, any posts in this thread should relate to headline speculation.

Although we now know who the headliners are, there’s still plenty to speculate about…

what day will each act play? What songs will they play?  what will they wear? what instrumentation will they have?  etc Also, who will headline the various stages?

Any posts not related to headline speculation should really be posted in a different thread.  Perhaps an Idles discussion thread for idle discussion about idles.

Yard Act, Chromeo and Gossip are absolutely not going to be added, for a start.

I do think we're short of at least one late night Big Top headliner, most likely the Sunday usually decent sized post-punkish band slot (I'm wondering about Viagra Boys, who are expected to be around as they had to pull out of Forwards the same weekend last year, though if IDLES do the Sunday that might be different this time), but the first announcement was far stronger than last year's for "second string" acts so I wouldn't expect much spectacular. The second wave was on 22nd March last year, so with this year's first lot coming out a week later than normal I'd expect something around Easter weeks.

You guys really do crack me up. The whole Idles as Guardian reading pretend punks thing? I stress that every SINGLE person I met last year at EOTR was dead on but Jesus, if there's a more middle class festival in the world, point me in it's direction! The variety is the beauty of it isn't it? Idles may be w*nkers, I have no idea but the idea that they're too pretentious for the festival gave me a chuckle.

Nobody hates middle class Guardian readers as much as other middle class Guardian readers.

This forum is hilarious at times. Often seems like a competition to post a list of the most obscure acts that you can guarantee the vast majority of people attending EOTR would never have heard of. Don't get me wrong that can be informative and helpful but the outrage in some quarters when Simon has the temerity to book someone that most people have actually heard of ( and I'm not just talking Idles here) is very funny.

IDLES fans brooking no dissent or questioning of the booking, and getting arsey when anyone has the temerity to express a differing opinion shows that the true spirit of punk rock is definitely still alive and kicking with these guys.

Who's getting arsey exactly? Everyone on here at least seems to be saying they find all the naysaying very funny.

Suggest you look up the word 'outrage' in the dictionary as you clearly don't know what it means.

Assume The Gaslight Anthem is your favourite band?

how obscure can they be if they're being booked to play End Of The Road? lol

Evening and headliner time all looks great as per the clashfinder.

Nourished by Time > Sleater Kinney

SLIFT > Joanna Sternberg > Fever Ray

Cornelius > Lankum

Lacking a bit of depth for me though on most of the days but obviously that could change with subsequent announcements.  Post-headliner also looks a bit naff so far.
