That article isn’t worth getting upset over, we are still in the same position waiting on the phase 3 trials data. I’ve said before but try not to get too invested in 1 new story or report. Take a view in the whole picture based on several different reports.

Yeah its a good idea in and of itself. Another not so subtle gesture to their apparent keynesian pretensions. But the new deal of the 30s depression which was founded on big spending on public works and the UK is sure as hell in need of a bit of investment in the regions for once.

But yes, sadly i cant see it concluding in any way other than these parasites swiftly bleeding it dry through incompetence and nepotism. Socialism for the rich, jobs for the boys. It will just become the JCB, mcalpine (big tory donors) liquidity fund

Even at 62% it'd still be approved for use here. 

It does somewhat affect the speed of recovery if your vaccine works 60% of the time rather then 90%.

But hopefully a combination of the Pfizer and Oxford ones delivered to different groups will help speed things up.

Tbh Pfizer for the vulnerable and old and oxford for the rest will be fine

So, they have a bit of untangling to do to figure out the best way of administering this. Ultimately, their vaccine passes the hurdle for approval if it's better than 50% at stopping disease and it is, so they will still get approval for use. But...they need to start dosing people asap in their US trial with this new half dose/full dose regimen as they had nobody on their trial there that received it like this (and now is the time to do this while the disease is still spreading widely). If I were them, I'd also use both the original planned regimen and this new one in the over 55 population in their US trial as they also don't have any data on how weaker immune systems perform with this altered regimen (this will require an amendment to be sent into the FDA). They have previously shown that the immune response in older participants is good with the original two dose regimen, so it would be important to find out what the best way of administering it is in this age group. I suspect when they get emergency use approval, they will stick with the two full dose regimen until they have clearer data on their altered one (which is still over 60% effective and may also reduce transmission).

Is it normal to combine tests from separate trials like they've done?

I'm sure when more info comes out it will be fine. I suspect 95% is a bit high for the other ones as well, but as its emergency use, and there aren't any safety issues and its almost definitely 50%, it will be approved in the UK ( US is potentially a different issue at the moment)

I'm sorry man, It does show how fucked we are in january, if businesses and employers are jumping at reverting back to normal, even though it seems like most of the UK, will be in tier 2 and above. I think a lot of people despite the tiers will treat this as coming out of lockdown and a return to normal, - partly because the government has front loaded the messaging with promises of sport with audiences and christmas. - 

I hope your company will do the right thing when tiers are announced and let people work from home, but as expected less and less companies are caring about actually sticking to the guidelines, just look at the amount of businesses open this time, declaring themselves essential that didn't last time, greggs and b&q etc.

With my work we were given the option to either come back to the office or work from home. Hopefully everyone else gets the same choice. I chose to go back to the office because I can get more work done there and it’s been good to get out of the house every day.

Yeah, the main problem I have with it is I hate going to the office.

I don’t get that at all, the government directive is still to work from home even in tier 1. There’s only a few reasons why someone would have to go into an office and those are serious ones like the environment at their home. What’s their reason?

They don't giev a reason...just say out of lockdown so offices open, and then the usual safety measures.

This is what gov.uk says and is for all tiers. You should appeal as you can work from home.
