Government website updated with the Hotel Quarantine and Travel Testing Package.

And no surprise, the links to the actual booking pages are under maintenance 🤣

296 cases today which is the lowest daily number since November 30th.

7 day rate is now down to 155.2, with 5 of the 11 regions of NI having a 7 day rate below 100 (including mine).

The 7 day rate for NI is at its lowest since Dec 5th.

7 day rate in NI is now down to 126.3, the lowest figure since Oct 1st which is fantastic.

My particular area is down below 100 too (74.6).

If we let everyone else catch it in anything close to the same time then we'll end up with already stretched hospitals tipping over into overwhelmed again as the lower percentage of younger people in hospital becomes a big absolute number, not to mention further delayed treatments/surgeries etc.

The only sensible option for the NHS is to open up when most of the population is vaccinated, and keep things at tier 2 levels at best until then, with maybe household mixing added outdoors in summer. But that will ruin the economy so who knows...

First of all “everyone catching it at the same time” is a total misnomer. Even if the R number was allowed to go as high as 4 (which it wouldn’t due to vaccines, immunity and low level restrictions) it would take months to sweep through the remaining population.

Secondly, can you provide any evidence that the NHS could be overwhelmed purely as a result of covid admissions among people who don’t fall into the JCVI groups? I haven’t seen any admission data on people who are (a) under 50, and (b) No health conditions, but knowing what we know, you need an awful lot of cases in this group for one person to need hospitalised. Also worth remembering that these groups will have the highest levels of natural immunity as they’ve been the least careful throughout the pandemic.

I’m not saying that a reopening ISNT a risk to the NHS, but we need to see some data on the hospitalisation rate of younger people to explain why it would be. Furthermore, if prevalence can be driven very low over the next month, we’ll be in a position to try opening up for a bit and see what happens because the NHS will have a bit more breathing room. We can always lock down again if the hospitalisations creep north.

Yup. I understand the pointdexters wanting to keep things safe, but not all of us can stay in the labs all the the time.

Thats a joke btw! im not advocating opening everything up in March, but i think some of the scientists need to stop adding years to things in public

Date for the roadmap could potentially be slipping.

I always took it mean that week.

Last day would be 25th Feb for schools to reopen March 8th.

DOH, forgot Febhas 28 days! I dont think the schools and roadmap are linked closely to that extent. Can announce school to reopen on the 22nd and then the roadmap that week

Have the nerds got to the government and told them to keep us locked up for a few months 'to be sure?'

Feb 22nd is two weeks before March 8th (28 days in February)

Just assumed that would be the reason. Could be wrong. Either way, my point is that you don't need to drink to go to the pub and it's a weird thing to pick up on imo.

My girlfriend doesn't drink and goes to the pub a lot to have meals with me! 🙂

    • Sun's out today. Can feel the hills calling. Time to ramp up the energy levels. I've been easing my way in gently the last 2 weeks with the likes of Hayley and Lael Neale and Cut Worms and Maria Somerville etc. Time to unleash some Shame, Mogwai, Place to Bury Strangers and especially Wednesday and Mannequin Pussy.  Also, just back from a brilliant night in Belfast at the Fleadh Ceoil so anything with a fiddle or a whistle or a squeeze box is drawing me like the Sirens. Madra Salach with the volume up. COME ON!!
    • My Orange car park ticket turned up today. The envelope looked like some kind of junk mail offering me a loan so I nearly didn't open it!
    • There is a bunch of TBC acts on Deftones day, according to APE insta. The obvious guesses are Fiddlehead, Nothing, Dynamite and Make Way, "Outbreak" artists playing the night before. The question is more about how are they are gonna fit in on three big stages.    is
    • SURELY Reel Big Fish will be here?
    • Sam Fender, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter is a very bland set of headliners. Commercially successful and makes plenty of sense, but it wouldn't be very inspirising. That said I want a band like Green Day to headline so who am I to say what exciting is.
