It’s amazing that he never thought this might happen when he announced a wide spread of a new variant of the virus

We are witnessing the fall of a Prime Minister, trust me he is gone within a year.

Ah, the big Xmas  shop. Can you not do it at the end of a shift or when shop is quiet?  Dreading this week, we’ve got four big shops to do including our own. Doing favours for some housebound folk. And due to travel restrictions it means the local Morrisons rather than the exotic pleasures of Asda or Tesco.

the shop won't be quiet at all this week , we arent getting any priority , but I might be able to enter via the colleague entrance after my shift to avoid the main q .... reduced trading hours ... will mean we are more busy ... I will just have to see what our maxed out limit of 1500 feels like ... and get used to it .... its going to  be like that all week .... I will just try and avoid picking the fresh food areas of the shop when it becomes too busy

It's a kick in the balls for France to ban freight. Wouldn't antigen tests for freight drivers be a better option than fucking the British economy and public even further?

This is especially the case seeing as the new strain will/is already spreading round Europe anyway. Banning freight will make little difference to the virus but have a big impact on a lot else.

(Ignoring Brexit and the fact the government has inflicted this on a longer term basis anyway.)

Hasn’t it been around since September?

Did it just forget it was super virulent for 3 months?

From BBC:

Quote

The new variant was first detected in September. In November it made up around a quarter of cases in London. This reached nearly two-thirds of cases in mid-December.

Three things are coming together that mean it is attracting attention:

It is rapidly replacing other versions of the virus
It has mutations that affect part of the virus likely to be important
Some of those mutations have already been shown in the lab to increase the ability of the virus to infect cells
