Do we think it might be wise to announce the clearance for use of the Oxford vaccine after the Xmas period?

I worry that if it is announced it's another green light for people to 'crack on' as normal.

Nah sooner its authorised, the sooner it can be used.

good luck at convincing Spaffer with that. 😛

What's going to happen isn't what you or I think should happen, but what a bunch of tory MPs think should happen.

Like it or not, it looks like most restrictions will be gone in the spring.

Article in the FT today about scrooge sunak saying he's worried about the deficit, which reads as an excuse for not extending furlough again

11,000 positive Covid tests missing from Wales data after IT problem

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/17/wales-coronavirus-cases-double-it-problem

That is a huge amount for Wales isn't it? So numbers today are going to be close to 40,000 surely. Unless they spread that 11,000 over several days.

A little bit of Christmas cheer after the tier updates today? Some said tomorrow but I think we might get it next week.

Is it ready to go as soon as they say? Or would there be a short delay to sort distribution etc so we kick off in the new year.

People should prepare themselves for a high case number today!

New Zealand almost good to go - plus they’ve got enough for their neighbours too.

isn't that just some tiny Pacific Islands, which are sovereign nations in their own right but where NZ formally provides them with some sort of support (because they're so tiny they're unable to cover everything for themselves)?

(it's a hang-over from the colonial era, I think).

A local(ish) pub to me has put this on facebook. Such a shame for all those involved in running / working in these types of industries.

Hi Drinkers , XMAS OPENING TIMES !
After spending thousands on PPE for staff , signs, floor signs ,bar screens , sanitiser stations ,thermometers and of course the the mandatory track & trace app ( before nhs one ) ! Also making sure you all checked in on the Track&Trace app on arrival ,then to take your temperature and get you seated at a social distance from anyone else ,On a sanitised table of no more than 6 people ! And then to make sure that you also stick to the one in one out rule for the toilets ! We then made sure that the door handles and touched surfaces were cleaned at least every hour for everyone’s safety! And don’t know if I mentioned it but make sure you all signed in on the track & trace app or our diary !
After doing all of that I have great pleasure in announcing our
XMAS OPENING HOURS : ..zero ,..nothing ,..nought ,..nil,..naught,...zilch,..sweet F A !
On the other hand of course supermarkets, retail and others will be open for you up until Xmas day !!!!
So please take full advantage and enjoy these hugely safe environments!
You can just walk in after crossing county’s and tier differences on public transportation with no Track & Trace , do all your shopping, pick up ,touch & even sniff produce and products, than put them back ! Have a chat for half an hour in aisle with people you meet only a shopping trolly apart !
Put all your products on a conveyor belt that hasn’t been wiped down right up the arse of the person in front ! Have another chat over a coffee in the in store cafe ,another chat in the car park ,and then go home on public transportation or car with no Track& trace being taken anywhere for your safety ! Did I mention TRACK&TRACE ?
Anyway “MERRY CHRISTMAS YOU FILTHY ANIMALS

I defo can't see it being extended in the same way as it's operating now.

I reckon for the following months they'll wind-down the support levels (as they did from August), or do something like they were planning to do until they decided to extend furlough.

Or wages support will simply come to an end with nothing to replace it.

its absolutely so true ... unfortunately ..... but what is the option in terms of people having to eat .... limiting numbers of shopping trips ? I see many regulars that will enter early before the marshals are in place to avoid wearing masks ... ( they wear them later on ) and people still shopping daily .... whilst I understand that some won't have cars the shops seem like a social environment to some

doubt they'll move liverpool to tier one.

It's not like some of the politicians there have a bit of form for bunging the odd brown envelope around to grease the wheels of decision making a bit though, is it?

Mayor of Bristol told the media last night that Bristol would be staying in tier 3.

Either he was guessing or he'd been told something.

Selfishly I'm a fan of Bristol not coming down a tier.

Been told our gym membership will automatically restart and we'd be charged if moved to tier 2.

Could do with the cash we're saving!
