To be fair to the record shops I don't think they are always receiving them on time to ship them for release date. I've seen a few mention it on social media. 

Can't guarantee they will ship on release dates but my favourite indies are Norman records (they are really good and flexible about splitting orders and letting you add to orders easily and do free shipping for over £50) and Piccadilly Records (they are my 'local' and are great for ordering to pick up but will also post to you once you get to over £75 for free if you set that service up with them - which was useful during lockdown)

yeah, its a supply chain thing. It usually has to come from over here and the postal service is still in bad shape so dont blame the shop outright for getting your order late. I might suggest seeing if an artist is offering their records on pre order through bandcamp. You would be getting it direct from them and giving the artist more income especially on bandcamp fridays. Just depends on how shipping rates are too.

Talking to my friend yesterday who was telling me about how difficult it is to get their records pressed at the moment due to limited places available to do it and a backlog  .... I dont know what impact that might have going forward .... might delay some tours ? wasnt sure what thread to put this in ....

My guess is this will affect smaller / indie artists far more than major acts, who I reckon can jump the queue if they want.

But does this mean that we're looking at a very active release schedule over the next year? Have acts been holding off releases due to to Covid?

yeah that probably the case ... and he was talking uk ... so it might well be less of an issue elsewhere .... maybe not though

Yep PSB were talking about this on Twitter when people asked why they don't release their album sooner. They said that getting the physical copies ready is trickier than you think.

Adds up, there's plenty of albums that have come out digitally first and had to wait a while for a physical release (last weeks king gizz release doesn't ship until August for instance)
