A strong performance at BBC Radio 1 but not spectacular from some of the televised sets over the years. Nice new vocal dimension, but think he's continuing to botch his setlist selection at a pretty critical juncture. The big shows next month will reveal more.

I don't think you can judge the setlist at a Radio 1 event as being representative, given the more mainstream/diverse (non-partisan) audience and limited time slot.

I wasn't sure based on the iPlayer coverage whether or not some of the songs had been lowered in tone slightly to protect his voice a bit. People Watching in particular seemed to be a little lower than I expected, although it might just have been a lower energy performance or the live TV mix.

It was so good in the field

I think it's more Big Weekenders are there for the event rather than a specific act. Crowds always seem flat there. PW went off at the O2 in December.

Disagree, Inhalers set had amazing atmosphere.

Sam Fender was good, but don’t think he is ready for the Big G headline set yet.

Then again I’m much  more onboard with a Queen make em deaf and blind them start to a set so was an uphill battle from the get go for me (and I was extremely drunk)

I think at one point during the set he mentioned technical difficulties, which could also explain his nervousness.

For me the R1 setlist was perfect; tyrants, little bit closer, spit of you. Some really great choices on there. Would have loved Angel in Lothian though!

Yeah, I thought it was ace.

His main problem is 15 song setlists. His selection needs to be "not 15"

I don't think he's ever got his setlist right and I think this is a big reason he's not quite coming across as massive/ great as he should be. Really odd choices.

Howdon aldi death queue is a waste of space, especially when he plays pretty short sets

Agreed with both of these comments. Howden needs to get in the bin!

I said it during his December tour (I saw him in Manchester) that not playing 'Saturday', a real singalong song, is mind blowing to me.

Exactly. Spice seems to have been moved on, but Death Queue can join it for me, as much as he loves it for a raucous throwaway.

Know he has health issues, but he should be squaring eighteen songs a night for 105 minutes with the size of the gigs he's playing, at a bare minimum.

Getting Started

Dead Boys

Arm's Length

4 Will We Talk?

Spit of You

Crumbling Empire

7 Saturday

Nostalgia's Lie

9 Mantra

10 Tyrants

11 The Borders

12 Little Bit Closer

13 Get You Down

14 People Watching

15 The Dying Light

16 Remember My Name

17 Seventeen Going Under

18 Hypersonic Missiles

I’d swap mantra and tyrants for wild Long Lie, Play God, This Sound or Paradigms.

But this is a great set.

I could never understand why he dropped Paradigms after one show. It has so many Arena friendly elements to it.

Nah it's always a highlight. The double header with Spice was a bit much though imo.

Lack of Paradigms and You're Not The Only One has always bemused me. Would love to see Rein Me In on rotation too.

Hoping for something a bit more exciting for SJP.

When I got that album I figured that would be one of the big ones forever. Didn't even get it at the album launch show.

I believe I read somewhere that the upcoming stadium shows will be 2 hours…which would make it probably a 20 song setlist.

For me, I’d like:

1. Little Bit Closer

2. Getting Started

3. Wild Long Lie

4. The Borders

5. Arm’s Length

6. Will We Talk?

7. Get You Down

8. Saturday

9. TV Dinner

10. Dead Boys

11. Crumbling Empire

12. Spice

13. Leave Fast

14. Spit of You

15. Chin Up

16. The Dying Light

17. Seventeen Going Under

Encore

18. Remember My Name

19. People Watching

20. Hypersonic Missiles

    • Let's hope you're right - having secret set by Olivia Rodrigo would be huge. It might even overshadow the Thursday trainwreck.   We'll see in a couple of hours.
    • Yet again we’re missing the WH Sunday reggae slot
    • Occident has got larger over the years and there's relatively little overlap with mbv and OR fans that I think it would work fine as it would divide the crowd so effectively.   They don't even need to give the biggest stage from an optics perspective either, this would be billed as a secret short set and used to promote her new album.
    • Really like this! Few artists a bit low I reckon like the Reytons, Yard Act, the Royston Club and Florence Road but I’d absolutely take this!
    • Yeah Olivia Rodrigo walked right past me when leaving the crowd during The Cure set.   I had to escape where I was in the crowd so was just chilling in the bottom left corner when she walked through with a couple of others.    Thought it was her or someone who looked incredibly like her but no-one else seemed to pick up on it, either not bothered or just too engrossed in their own conversations to not notice..
