Wow what an album. I was thinking it would be bland, however imo this album takes him to the next level.

I am really surprised that he is not headlining this year though like many artists, he is doing his own thing.

I have only seen him live once at Glastonbury however thankfully I bought a ticket for Wythenshaw in Manchester which sold out in minutes and cannot wait as already know it is going to be a wonderful sing along.

I will have it on most of today too!

Fifth full go-around and sober too.

I don't feel there's ever been too much made of the fact that, like any thirty-year-old Brit, he will have had some passing exposure to Oasis.

But Something Heavy and its strum pattern - not so much its lyrics - feels like it could have been a late-era Noel-led cut.

The boys absolutely gunning for the lad Fender here

"I think he sounds like Mike and the Mechanics"

"Nah - more like a late period Oasis Noel Gallagher track"

And yet, I'd say we both still like it 🤣

People WatchingCrumbling Empire and Arm's Length top three for me, but Chin Up is a close-run job too.

Well, its the verse as well now I go again 😁

I think we're just going around in circles here 😁

On another listen, what's your weakest cut out of interest? Expands to all - not here to bash, but Remember My Name really does feel like it closes out matters on a bit of a flub note. Just hope it makes sense live, or it clicks at some point.

I quite like that one, tbf. There are quite a few weak tracks on there to pick from without them being stinkers... I don't wanna get negative about a particular one, there's just a good bit of meh on there, sometimes a whole track, sometimes just a bit. I don't think this is a great album - in all honesty, he hasn't made a great album yet, but still has a good selection of tunes. This is decent enough and will make his live shows a hit more varied and therefore interesting. People Watching obviously more classic (with added WoD) Fender. I reckon the album will be a grower, but not one to spin on repeat...

That's pretty much where I am with it too. Rein Me In is probably my pick of the bunch from the new one. I like the album as a whole, it's fine...

Interesting, as I think it is his first "great" album, even if there isn't quite the larger depth of out-and-out bangers yet.

I think he's had a few issues picking his choices live too. He hasn't quite nailed the specifics of picking the best live songs sometimes.

Ah yeah, there's enough quality on there for some people to see it as great - see some reviews for eg - all about preference innit?

Have given the new album a further go. Very bland, to a surprising degree.  There is 100% a rip off of The Living Years, which is weird.  As mentioned, it's generally like watered down War on Drugs.  I made that association before realising Adam G was involved.  People Watching cleared the dancefloor at a wedding I was DJing at on Saturday night in Glasgow.  Before anyone says he is not an artist you'd play at weddings, a couple of his other songs have done the business before.

    • Let's hope you're right - having secret set by Olivia Rodrigo would be huge. It might even overshadow the Thursday trainwreck.   We'll see in a couple of hours.
    • Yet again we’re missing the WH Sunday reggae slot
    • Occident has got larger over the years and there's relatively little overlap with mbv and OR fans that I think it would work fine as it would divide the crowd so effectively.   They don't even need to give the biggest stage from an optics perspective either, this would be billed as a secret short set and used to promote her new album.
    • Really like this! Few artists a bit low I reckon like the Reytons, Yard Act, the Royston Club and Florence Road but I’d absolutely take this!
    • Yeah Olivia Rodrigo walked right past me when leaving the crowd during The Cure set.   I had to escape where I was in the crowd so was just chilling in the bottom left corner when she walked through with a couple of others.    Thought it was her or someone who looked incredibly like her but no-one else seemed to pick up on it, either not bothered or just too engrossed in their own conversations to not notice..
