there's all sorts of reasons why I'm not, and/or can't.

I'm wanting to move on, but in the meantime not everything is as it might appear.

That's entirely understandable, and fair enough. Obviously it's a judgement call on what action you take, and how much you say. I don't know or really care who's done what and I don't need to know unless it's deemed relevant.

But with that in mind, maybe the safer approach is to not bring it up at all - when people see half of the story or a flippant comment out of context, they're going to get confused about what's being said.

Hear, hear!!!! I wholeheartedly agree

Except, there's just one thing:

WTF? That's even more unbelievable than people existing that haven't seen The Killers! Just as well he's gonna be there every year until he dies, eh? :)

I've never seen The Killers, Sas.

I can say with unqualified certainty that that will remain unchanged on 1 July 2019!

EEK!

Right, I've set this account up just to explain the whole situation and clear the air about it, as my actual account was (fairly) banned from posting, and I enjoy being able to still read actual discussion from the other posters on here. If you don't want this account/post to exist, or it's against my banning order, then feel free to delete it, Neil. Don't worry, I'm not planning to continue posting after this, I just wanted to get this out in the open and no one else wanted to post it from their actual account.

The Facebook group chat being spoken about was created in 2015 by a bunch of us on here (mostly us who used to frequent the R&L section as teenagers back in like 2013) who had each other on Twitter etc., and was basically used as a casual group chat to talk about music and stuff outside of this forum. It was often mentioned on here as being a "whacky banter crew" or whatever, but on the whole we still used the forum as usual. I'm saying all this because some people seem to have gotten the impression we set up a Facebook group for the sole purpose of trolling this forum, which isn't the case.

As time went on the chat grew and grew as people who joined knew other people from eFests IRL etc. and it got to the point where there were like 40 people from this forum in there (past and present users), including several serious posters on here who don't troll the forum or anything.

Anyway, some time last year (I guess) it became a thing that some people started making alt accounts to post on here. I cant even remember why this was a thing as they weren't used to troll the forum, they were used to post as normal. This continued for a while and it became a "thing" to make alt accounts using puns based on people's usernames. No harm was meant by this, we were basically just trying to have some fun with plays on people's names (e.g. tentrentalplan after someone started a thread about tent rentals), with plays on dentalplan being the most popular mainly because he's the highest profile user on here, basically. I was involved in this as were many others.

Eventually this spiralled out of control and there was a period where we were making several alt accounts per day and creating troll threads via them (e.g. spoofs of the "How many Janet Jackson songs do you know?" thread), to the extent that is was clearly getting on people's nerves by now. Some people were clearly very irritated by it and so they started being tagged in posts from these troll accounts (that's the only reason you were ever "targeted" btw, @Hugh Jass, not because anyone had a personal problem with you).

There was then the cartoon horse porn thing which, in fairness, everybody other than the person who posted it was baffled by, and we told that person that that wasn't cool.

By now we knew it had gone too far but, as sad it was, we just found it very funny, and probably needed something to make us stop doing it. Eventually Neil messaged myself and told me we needed to stop or there would be consequences. I thought this was fair enough because we had been going too far, so I relayed his message to everybody involved and everybody stopped with the trolling and went back to posting as normal.

Thankfully the whole thing seemed to have blown over until it was accidentally brought up again yesterday (not blaming anyone, it's just the way the conversation went), and people clearly want an explanation/don't know the full story, so I wanted to post this to clear it all up.

For the record, neither @Phoenix Girl nor @Bradders have ever been involved in the Facebook chat or the trolling. I think we may have included Phoenix Girl in a group PM on eFests where we sent out a link to the group chat, after she called me a weapon, but that's it. No idea where Bradders' supposed involvement has come from.

Also @eFestivals based on one of your responses to Fast Drones earlier I'm not sure if you think that account is run by myself? If so, it isn't, it's someone's main account, although I know it has also contributed troll-ish posts the forum on occasion. I know you told me to make sure no one else from the group chat continues to troll the forum either, and everyone has agreed after it was brought up again yesterday that no one wants it to continue.

Whilst I'm I'd like to apologise to Neil and anyone else who was dragged into it and/or annoyed by the whole ordeal. And also thank you to Neil for getting us to stop it so this place could get back to normal (which it hopefully can do once again after this explanation).

Again, apologies if this account/post isn't wanted here, Neil.

Edit: And by the way the fake account lark was much more thinly spread than people seem to think. Each person involved probably made a few accounts and that's it.

To be fair, that doesn't really cover the deranged, abusive stuff that was going on under account that weren't funny plays on words, but outright attempts to impersonate users.

You've got way too much time on your hands mate.

Entirely fair, but as I say it was a large group of people doing it less frequently (per person) than some seem to believe.

And as I also said, I'm glad Neil messaged me and put a stop to it as it was a massive waste of time but also kind of addictive.

If what you said is true about that pheonix girl not being involved then still doesn't explain why Neil refused to apologise for being a dick to her

I'm assuming because she was included in the group PM he thought she was involved somehow

I'm assuming he thinks she's involved for some reason (perhaps because of the group PM I mentioned), but I'm hoping my big explanation will clear that up.

Bit of a running joke on one of the football message boards I frequent that people seem to go a bit mental whenever it's international week. Seems like that happened in fallow year here but magnified over months as opposed to days.

Good argument for having Glastonbury every year as far as I'm concerned.

Nah, 2014 was worse.
