The Eavis family's comments on the line up like this have almost always disappointed. Im an open target - name me a time they came out with one of these statements and the "surprise" turned out to be a proper belter...

Emily definitely does the marketing thing, but that's more-normally the more-general "we have a fantastic line-up this year" thing.

From what I know of her my own suspicions here is that this is something a bit more unusual than the norm.

What's your gut instinct on this?

I reckon the only way its the Stone Roses is if they are actually planning on releasing a new album. They'd need the exposure to sell the album. So I doubt its the Stone Roses.

Obviously people will have their own opinions on the Libertines as an act, but they weren't even billed as a "big secret" they were just TBC until the curtain dropped to reveal them, no fanfare or anything. I'd say that was overwhelming rather than underwhelming.

OK so let's assume for one moment it is going to be something like Led Zep...where the hell will they play? They aren't getting back together to play the Pyramid stage at 7pm before Foo Fighters. Legends slot with Big Dave on drums? It's really hard for me to imagine it's anyone of that level, as much as seeing Zep/Macca/Gilmour&Mason would be immense.

My money is still on Gaga/Gorillaz/Bon Iver. All would be huge bookings so would be a 'big secret', but you can picture them on the lineup as non-headliners.

If it's anyone of Led Zep size (not that there is anyone), my money's on The Ginger One being in on the secret and being knocked down a peg. It won't be anyone particularly bombastic in that case because it's Sunday. Could be The Mac though.

My money is also on one of your suggestions / something akin to

Yep good point but just to keep the theory going it could have been a fake map to throw everyone off lol

They have history for changing the map as we get nearer the festival.  I'd be surprised if the one we have now is the one that's the live version come gates opening.

Agree - considering they headlined Reading the same year

a headline-status band or an important reform (such as The Kinks).

I don't think it's going to be just-another-band on the line-up, tho perhaps I'm taking emily wrongly.

The Killers or Kings of Leon? Haven't seen them mentioned, but could fall in the bracket of previous headliners who wouldn't necessarily get booked in that capacity again, but might want to play the festival anyway so could potentially accept a lower slot. Both are 'exclusive' at BST, which might be why they've had to keep it under wraps? Also neither were really rumoured outside of the usual bookies and clickbait articles which also included the likes of Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys etc who were never going to headline.

Exactly this. Regardless of who it is some people are gonna be over the moon and others will be kick off, it's inevitable.

If It's announced beforehand then everyone has the choice to go or not. This year we went from strong rumours of Daft Punk and The Stone Roses to Foo Fighters and Ed Sheeran. For me personally, that's like having a contract lined up to sign for Real Madrid and then come August you're lining up for Accrington Stanley but there'll be others delighted with those two as headline acts. That's the beauty of music.. opinions.

Could it be a brand new stage ? The same sort of size as the Other or West Holts ?

Could well be to be fair. Then it would be a few big bands and would explain some who we strongly suspect are there being left off of the initial poster. Though it's unlikely of course.

I've not had the chance to trawl through all pages but has anyone considered Take That? Shaun Keaveny mentioned a potential reunion for all five original members on R6M this morning and suggestively added "ooooh, I wonder where that would happen?" as if he knew something. Probably nothing but I could definitely see them fitting in that Sunday teatime slot

Part of me hopes they keep this as a surprise on the day.

I know The Libertines was a last minute fill in the gap booking, and word had mostly got about that it was gonna be them, but there was a great buzz in the field before they came on and it was kinda awesome keeping a band of their level as a surprise act.

So yeah, I'm rooting for a secret Pyramid sub headliner :)
