2019 Headliners

So hard to keep up.   I know that Emily ruled out Fleetwood Mac and Madonna.

I think that leaves us with the following options, have any of these been ruled out?

The Strokes
Lady GaGa
Rihanna
Foals
Tame Impala
Ariana Grande
Bon Jovi
The 1975
The Killers
Liam Gallagher

This headliner thread has been keeping me entertained at work for a while now!

Just thought I'd pop in and add some more smoke to the Gaga fire - she's just been announced for some kind of conference (?) in Florida on May 9th, so it looks like the Vegas contract doesn't prevent her from doing other shows, elsewhere... (fingers crossed)

Ariana Grande is playing America In June so I think she is ruled out.

No way are they giving it to Tame Impala, I know they’re headlining Coachella but even that was a bump up and they’re bigger in the US. Going down well in a sub slot is a whole different kettle of fish to headlining successfully. They barely have anything that can be described as a hit over here.

Ariana has a gig in the US on the 29th so won’t be her.

1975 are headlining Reading, Melvin wouldn’t allow it.

Liam isn’t going to headline off the back of one album and his old band’s songs.

I actually think The Killers is a decent shout at this point, though.

People come up with some strange stuff on here. The Strokes apparently don't feel like a Glasto headliner in 2019 so instead we've come up with:

- Chemical Brothers, who can't headline any major festivals these days and played the Other Stage 4 years ago.

- Oasis, who haven't existed for a decade.

The Strokes are a major festival headliner. They might be a shit choice and it might be disappointing, but at least they exist and headline major festivals.

And the fact they genuinely dislike, probably go as far as hate, each other. Think we established it wasn't just for show some time back, won't be happening anytime soon.. if at all

Give it a couple more years and I honestly think it will happen. The money on the table will get bigger and bigger and eventually the pull will be too strong.

Cheers!

I think Glastonbury would be keen to have a female headliner although I know that it's not always possible because of logistics.   At this stage, Stormzy/Lady GaGa/The Cure seems a good bet.

As popular as they are on here (and with me), Foals and Tame Impala are not headliner material for Glastonbury. On merit they may well be but a huge chunk of people have probably heard of neither.

Wouldn't surprise me to see The Killers after last year to be honest even if there's nothing above that to support it. Although I think it's nailed on Strokes and Cure.

If they announce something for the Summer then maybe. Right now there's no indication they're going to be active at all.

True, but then weren’t half the band not active at the time they did the secret set, but replaced the touring musicians for just that gig? Implies to me they’d take it as a one-off if offered.

This badger beef needs to get wound up and stat.

Queen are one of the few acts with a banger index that rivals Macca.  People will piss and moan about the Fred-deficit but even with Adam Lambert they're still in a far better position to headline a major gig than a band fronted by Julian Casablancas.

Not a Queen fan, but this is inarguable.

It was just one of them who'd left by that point. I think one guy rehearsing for one gig is more likely than a whole band starting up again just for one gig - I imagine there are a lot more people involved in that than just the band members.

Most people would have said the same about Stormzy a couple of months ago...

There's more to suggest The Strokes than anyone now.. Grimshaw's double mention, the person on here who heard from someone who works for a large promoter, they're active; already announced to headline two European festivals in July (which obviously means they in Europe a few weeks after Glastonbury) and a U.S one in May.

I know we've learnt to take Michael Eavis' comments with a pinch of salt but did he not say a couple of acts who haven't played before for 2019 at some point? It would also fit with that if so

Personally I think they fit in as a trio with Stormzy and The Cure as well. Stormzy is the differential, The Cure pleases a lot.. with a risk of getting a backlash.. the older lot as well. The Strokes still have a huge appeal in some circles and fit the bill of a big indie band.

We shall see I guess..

New (Trump-baiting) single announced this week, no?

Yeah they released a single that Brandon Flowers apparently started writing like 7 years ago. It didn't come with any news of a new album or anything and it doesnt seem like a reason to tour. Seems like a total one off, to me.

And I'm not saying they couldn't end up touring; the last album is probably still recent enough to do another string of festivals on the back of, they just don't seem likely right now when it's already January and there's no indication of them touring.

    • Gojira are unoficially confirmed by the organisation at Hellfest since last December already.   Slayer was supposed to be this year as a Mainstage 2 headliner at the place of Volbeat for a thrash day but negotiations fell off. Very likely to be there next year.    MCR I didn't know about but it fits well with Hellfest's desire to keep one day as more punk/rock orientated.    Europe are a confirmed headliner for Sweden Rock 2027. They will not headline HF but we may seem them on the bill. I am very curious who will be the legacy bands next year at HF. There was some backlash after 2025 and a bit of a return to heavier metal on the bill in 2026 - e.g. Gatekeeper on the main stage. The only considerable legacy acts I see coming (if they are in Europe) and haven't been at HF for a while are Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Slash, FFDP (if you count them as legacy), ZZ Top, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I really hope they manage to pull sth big for the 20th anniversary like AC/DC.
    • Looking forward to Doja Cat letting us all know what is going on later on today. It is a good job that somebody is keeping us informed.
    • They've got a few gigs in Dec/Jan.  Hoping to pick up a couple of tickets for Margate later today
