I always thought it was more to do with releasing a less commercial album and wanting to play the songs

Radiohead/The King of Limbs are a slightly different prospect to Arctic Monkeys/TBHQ, though. Plus Thom and Jonny had done a secret set on the Park the year before so they had form for it. Plus from what I can gather Glastonbury was the only festival they did in the world that Summer, and the only gig they did at all apart from a Maida Vale Studios thing, so they won't have had a festival headline show prepared, which Arctic Monkeys most likely will next Summer.

That too. Plus they're generally there anyway. Thom did it the year before and has also DJ'd later on a few times. I think Jonny showed up on West Holts at one point.

Basically, like Elbow, Jarvis, Damon and Coldplay, they're part of the family. Dunno if you could say the same about wee whatisface.

Yeah Jonny played with the London Sinfonietta on WH whilst we were all watching Kaiser Chiefs open the Other Stage.

I dunno about that. I'm still predicting Arctic Monkeys to be the third headliner so this isn't just me trying to justify my prediction or owt, but Arctic Monkeys headlined on the touring cycle of their previous album, and I can't think of many examples of Glastonbury booking an act to headline on consecutive cycles. If the Eavii know Arctic Monkeys plan to have another album out in the next two years or so it'd make a lot of sense to give em a miss this time around and bring them back on the next cycle, especially as the current album doesn't exactly lend itself to major festival slots.

Their set lists do though. What I've heard live off the new album comes across excellent.

If I had to guess, I'd say they're headlining 2020 instead of 2019. Hope it's 2019 though personally.

Could they have Muse back again? I know they did it year before the last but it is a house band. No, only chance is as Gucci said, a secret set.

Id absolutely love this, doubt others would though.

Muse always put on a proper headline show, I wish I had been there in 2004 what a performance. Blew Oasis out of the field, not that its hard but.

They are the best live band I have seen. Always a show. Them and Biffy Clyro, best I have seen.

I don't know where they all went afterwards, but it wasn't to see Emilie Sande.

Walked past this on way to WH - felt really sorry for her. She had a big production too, and there she was performing to a crowd a fraction of the size for Rag & fucking Bone Man earlier.

Just searched Glasto on the ArcticMonkeysUS forum and there were only a few results but common consensus amongst them seemed to be that it was unlikely anyway and saw some people saying that Sziget last month seems to be the end of this tour in terms of mainland Europe (although that could just be because nothing further has yet been announced, unless someone in the band alluded to that being the end of it), so they may not even be in Europe next Summer anyway.

I guess that thing Blake got told about MSG, an iconic June festival and a special UK date probably suggested that would be the case anyway tbf.

All because she took time out the game to cope with her marriage falling apart, too. Poor lass.

Just spoke to yer man directly at AM US...

I don’t think so. I have a wedding that weekend and my friend from domino said I won’t be missing anything

F****g gutted.

Oh well, 2020 it is then for the 50th anniversary. Deservedly so, too.

I wouldn't rule out a british band playing glasto as a one off

    • exactly. give them mordor slot when I have other alternatives, not Wednesday
    • Absolutely love her record, System. Definitely an album that rewards a bit of commitment.   She's right on my must-see list. Hoping she's in the Walled Garden, as I think her sound might be a bit muddy if she's early-ish in Far Out.   Ben
    • Same here, I kept trying to go on A View From My Seat to see if each block was worth it. So vague!
    • Ok, I’ve had time to process the experience now, so here is my review.   The good Barcelona - what a beautiful place! What lovely people! The city was like another headliner. Stayed in El Poblenou, and the bars, cafes and restaurants were perfect. Avalanches - Absolutely spectacular, euphoric set. Fantastic stage. Possibly enhanced by substances that I timed right, for a change. Added bonus that I don’t really remember the queue. The Cure - I’ve been a fan for 34 years, and never got round to seeing them, so this was a dream come true. The XX - The sound was exceptional. The lights and setlist perfect, giving each member their moment. Was really loud where I was standing (between the front and the sound desk), but i didn’t notice any chatters - even during the quieter moments. Also loved Men I Trust, .bd. , Big Thief, NewDad and Gorillaz. The food within Parc Del Fòrum was also a lot better than I was expecting.   The bad People talking non-stop throughout some of the sets, and shouting to be heard over the music. I had to move 3 times during Wet Leg just to be able to hear the band over the crowd. It’s probably an age thing, but I just don’t understand it. You’ve paid how much to watch these acts, and now you’re standing with your back to the stage, missing the music and ruining the experience for everyone else? Odd behaviour.   The weather apocalypse on Thursday. I genuinely thought I would be able to tough it out. I couldn’t. Left after Geese. The lack of communication from Primavera didn’t help.   Whilst it was lovely to be by the sea, and the sunsets were very pretty, the site is a bit…concrete-y, isn’t it? I kind of longed for some grass and trees. Often found ourselves standing on the steps by the Adidas yard by some bamboo. This was probably a subconscious need for some nature. The fact that some of the nature included cockroaches did not negatively affect the experience.   My daughter, for running away when she saw the drug dogs in the queue on Thursday, meaning that I lost her for the whole evening. She hid her stash under a bench, and it miraculously survived the storms.   Also, can someone explain the point in having a wristband, when you still have to show your ticket every time you enter and leave the site?   Finally, I would like to nominate myself as one of the bad things about this year’s Primabera. I should have done Primavera a lot better. It was my first one, so I’m still learning, but I think I left too early on the Thursday. Left after the Cure on Friday, so I would be full of energy on Saturday, and then barely made it to the end of Gorillaz anyway, meaning I missed Overmono, Skrillex, Skullcrusher, Kneecap, and a few more I would have liked to see.   All in all Amazing lineup. Decent food options. Cupra and Cupra Pulse stages were very impressive. Weather was perfect for 3 out of the 4 days i attended.   It was always likely to be a ‘one and done’ for me, but we had a blast, even if I am starting to get too old for all this.
