but by the same token, they are then booking a band that only has one album. Who was the last act to play third down pyramid with only one album behind them?

This is the kind of morale-building theorising that we need.

I know someone's gonna blow this argument wide open, but genuine question as top of my head I can't think of one.

A night's kip has not dimmed by anguish at this c**ty confluence.

K-Pez wins the toss, but missing Toots is heartbreaking.

The Avalanches are the greatest loss in that clash for me (seeing Solange at Primavera so I can get over that). Had kind of come to terms with the fact I'd possibly end up missing them, but the more I think about it (and especially how sweet that WH run is altogether)... damn I'm pissed.

You are all speaking with such certainty that these are the confirmed slots it's crazy!

Have you been at any of the other recent similar headliners at WH?  It's usually a really good vibe, so even if the band aren't delivering on all cylinders it's still one of the best places to hang.

the last headliner I saw there was jimmy cliff I think. Feels like a long time ago.

I suppose that there's nothing saying that they couldn't be 4th down, but seems a bit low based on their general level of popularity atm.

Is there anything putting them on the Pyramid in the first instance? Can they not sub the Other under Sergeant-Major Lazer?

UK Festival Exclusive apparently at Reading

If true, we may as well put that one to bed. In part, that actually suits me fine. I would've probably gone to see him for the nostalgia and come away disappointed, which is pretty much what happened when I saw NGHFB. And I quite like the NGHFB stuff too - the same, obviously, cannot yet be said for LG solo material, but I imagine it won't even be close to meat-and-potatoes rock. Probably more just potatoes-and-potatoes rock.

So, like Manchester's version of Nickelback, basically.

Well tbh I was predicting Royal Blood to be headlining Reading and Leeds this year so I'm clearly way off the mark with how much their popularity has lasted, and I suppose if they haven't even got a new album out by then then they shouldn't be expecting high billing, but third does seem about right to me (unless of course they end up subbing Other which frees up the third down Pyramid slot anyway, but again, them being on the third line of the poster suggests not).

Only reason I've been so adamant with Katy P being on the Saturday (or possibly Sunday if there was room for her, which there doesn't seem to be) is 'cause it's where the ever important TV viewers are, and, 'cause I like patterns, is where the big female act usually lands (few exceptions aside).

Well if we're to believe the running order of the poster thus far (which works for both headliners, subs and Other headliners) then they're seemingly on the Pyramid along with Katy Perry, Barry Gibb (Sunday legend), Stormzy (Friday hip-hop), and Chic, but then as I say, I'm a sucker for a pattern so that's just my theory that may well not pan out.

Major Lazer were also a UK festival exclusive to Reading/Leeds so I don't think we can buy in to that too much, especially as somebody has had info saying he's definitely gonna be there.

Fair point. Him being at Leeds is actually better for me to be honest - I'll probably wind up there on press duties so his confirmation allows a skip at Glastobury for certain.

Unless of course he is opening the Other on Friday, because I'm pretty certain whoever that is, I'll end up there.

I dunno, but nothing is worse than just hearing a 45 second snippet of your favourite song!

Once saw a DJ do this, and in-between some god-awful nineties r&b remix and some chart hit, he dropped Red Right Hand for all of half a minute. The entire club fell practically dead in bug-eyed confusion, except for me and my friend who both raised our beverages and inappropriately whooped. I have few good clubbing memories, so this is a strong one.

But isn't the Friday hip-hop slot 4th or 5th down? Which means Royal Blood could quite easily play 4th down Pyramid as well, especially given we're 11 weeks away from the festival and we still have no release date for the new album. 4th down is where I see Royal Blood fitting in, whilst I'm not a fan of The 1975 they had released their second album well in advance of last year's festival and it was a bona fide hit yet they still played 3rd down Other.

I guess which would mean we're still yet to get one of our third down Pyramid acts, but I don't see it panning out that way. General thought on The 1975's low slot (and I believe Neil had info that backed this up) was that they requested the lower slot so as to not clash with Adele/lose a large portion of their crowd (and they'd already played the Pyramid two years prior which explain why they weren't there again).

Could Royal Blood be other stage subs?

Like I've said it looks to me like they're grouped with all the other Pyramid acts/third downs so I'm not expecting it, although it could end up that way (and without a new album would probably make more sense really).

I get far too involved in all of this stuff, don't I?

I still think there is one "big" name to come which has thrown everyone off. Revealed on the full line up release date. Probably May 31th (Im in ibiza for a mates wedding & that is the wedding day)

As for getting too involved....we are all grown adults on the internet guessing this!!

Was it only last year there was talk of Emile Sande headlining the Pyramid and now she is 4th down or lower...... or another spanner in the works we have pretty much all missed?

Her second album kind of unexpectedly flopped which has seemingly seen her take a bit of a drop down lineups - she was inescapable in 2012, but when was the last time you heard any of her songs on the radio/anywhere?

The poster makes sense to me if you take out Katy Perry - 3 pyramid headliners, 3 pyramid subs, legend (Barry Gibb), 3 Pyramid 3rd downs.

It is cos Katy Perry is in there I can't work out else it does have a sort of pattern to it.

The three headliners, three subs (The xx, The National, Biffy Clyro), three third downs, although not listed in the order I'm expecting them to appear (Royal Blood, Katy Perry, Chic), the Sunday legend (Barry Gibb) and the Friday hip-hop act (Stormzy). Stormzy is the one that possibly throws this all off imo as I can't see him being third like the others, but he's a big name so I can understand why he's there. And then obviously Other headliners (and, imo, a Other sub in Lorde).

Stormzy seems a bit of a push for third down to me. I know he's a big deal but he does only have one album out and Skepta only got fifth down last year (granted Stormzy has taken off quite a bit more). And as you say, that leaves Katy Perry out and I can't see her getting lower than third.

I think Stormzy will be one of the 3rd downs.

Royal Blood, Stormzy and Chic - Fri - Sun in that order.

We are probably all totally wrong as there seems to have been a bulk purchase of spanners to throw in our works by GF HQ.

They be messing with our minds.

Yeah I was thinking about that - would then make me think they're going with a legend-type slot for KP on Friday/Saturday.

Unless he's early afternoon (same time as skepta) but on the Sunday and then comes on with Ed Sheeran to do shape of you.

Stormzy isn't 3rd down for me, the highest any of them get is 4th down and Mary J B and especially Snoop have been around longer and are bigger deals....the latter defo.

I have thought this but I think Ed will want to kill it himself. Not sure the headliners Stormzy comes out with Ed is what he'll want but if he did appear then I don't think Stormzy is busy that weekend. FF bring people out is different as they bring Led Zep out lol.

    • 👍 plus they brought their own screens 📺 either side of the stage.
    • Production was the only thing that could even explain why she would back out. Like they had sorted out the financials and she was fine with it and then a production meeting happened. It all fell apart. It was very clear that she was not going to compromise her show one bit and then that show in Brazil pretty much confirmed it. There was like one element they couldnt pull off outdoors, but it was negligible since the rest was a carbon copy of the tour she had been on. Glasto is not willing to make any bold changes on the Pyramid stage so then theyre kinda stuck in terms of what some acts want/demand. I think the easiest solution to that is putting her on Friday. You deal with the changes for one night and then re configure for the rest of the weekend. In 24 they were fortunate to have had Dua and Coldplay on Fri and Sat so they could both use the b stage. But I think it was removed for Sunday?     I saw a random rag article earlier that said Olivia Dean turned down Glasto BECAUSE her ex ( not even confirmed dating ) Harry Styles was playing the fest. hahahaha
    • No argument that he’s bigger than ever, I just have no enthusiasm for it.
    • Keep in mind those crowds were full of teenagers. Glasto aint full of teenagers. Theres no way she could demand headline and get it because they got other acts to give the slot to who deserve it with a bigger catalog. Reading/Leeds would headline her cause its still LN.  If the fest was struggling its Other headline. But a 3rd down Pyramid is likely the landing spot. Itll go down like the Camila Cabello performance pretty much.
