Was it only last year there was talk of Emile Sande headlining the Pyramid and now she is 4th down or lower...... or another spanner in the works we have pretty much all missed?

The poster makes sense to me if you take out Katy Perry - 3 pyramid headliners, 3 pyramid subs, legend (Barry Gibb), 3 Pyramid 3rd downs.

It is cos Katy Perry is in there I can't work out else it does have a sort of pattern to it.

Neil floated her as headliner, which was roundly ridiculed.

as for the poster, it it makes perfect sense to me. Katy Perry is a Pyramid 3rd down but she has been bumped up a line on the poster as she's obviously a bigger name than Royal Blood or Chic. (possibly a sweetener - bigger PR in exchange for her eventual slot)

similarly Stormzy has been bumped up a line to highlight grime/diversity.

there's definitely an order. Pyramid headliners grouped together and in order of day, Pyramid subs almost certainly grouped together and in order of day (we're fairly sure The XX are Pyramid subs on Friday, Biffy Clyro are definitely Pyramid subs on Sunday), the expected Other headliners are grouped together, and seemingly in the correct order as BBK are the 3rd and playing Sunday.

after that it gets all over the place.

Stormzy seems a bit of a push for third down to me. I know he's a big deal but he does only have one album out and Skepta only got fifth down last year (granted Stormzy has taken off quite a bit more). And as you say, that leaves Katy Perry out and I can't see her getting lower than third.

Skepta was 6th down, even (Muse, Foals, ZZ Top, Jess Glynne, TDCC, Skepta). Can't see Stormzy being 3rd. Like you I think it's the headliners, then the subs, then the next 5 are the 3rd down acts, the legend and the hip-hop act.

Royal Blood being fourth under The XX and Katy Perry seems oddly realistic now. And to think we were all giving third down Friday the eye of the rock slot.

Absolute scenes when Slayer are confirmed for Pyramid Friday evening.

Nah, Royal Blood are third I'm telling ya. Katy Perry after Kaiser Chiefs and before The National on the Saturday is on.

You sure KC can claim 4th down?, I guess if you take CD as 5th then there will only be two more and the opener tends to be random.

if B-Gibb's legends slot is a bit earlier and a bit shorter than previous years, they could do something like:

Gibb 15:00-15:45

Chic 16:15-17:15

Katy Perry 17:45-18:45

Biffy Clyro 19:30-21:00

Ed Sheeran 21:45-23:15

that's with Biffy getting 90mins, they could get less but they're a big sub. if they only got 75mins, then Gibb starting at 15:15 and everyone pushed up 15mins....

That could work, although would be a bit of a kick in the nuts for poor ol' Bazza. When was the last time the legend didn't play fourth down?

Probably giving far too much respect to the poster positionings... plus I fancied predicting something slightly different:

FRI: Radiohead, The XX, Royal Blood, Stormzy

SAT: Foo Fighters, The National, Chic, Lorde

SUN: Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Katy Perry, Barry Gibb

Other: Major Lazer, Alt-J, BBK/(TBA?)

My prediction from one week ago. Probably not quite perfect, but close the way things are panning out!

Bear in mind this was a time when Matt42 had the entire lineup nailed down - had to mentally build myself up before posting it

I can't really see why people are that desperate to fit Katy Perry on Sunday that they're trying to move the legends' slot down or have Chic 5th down. Can't see her as anything but 3rd down Saturday now.

Ha yeah I don't know why I'm continuously jumping in to counter their arguments - I have no doubts that this is what's gonna end up happening.

Nice job! Probably had it sussed better than most apart from one or two things.

I'm beginning to come round to the idea of Perry 3rd down on the Pyramid, tho it seems madness to me.  But then I think that every year with some of the arrangements.

But I'm not buying someone negotiated away a higher stage slot in exchange for being a row higher on the poster.

Yeah I don't know why they'd break the usual Legend slot for Chic... i'd imagine that chic playing 5th down could / would work well

I think it's way more likely that Bazza would play 5th with an hour set and Biffy 1hr 15. Don McClean plyed 5th to Paul Simon year.

I think Download have let Biffy play on the basis that they get a shorter set.

Stormzy won't be 4th anyway.

Yeah but Bazza is very clearly this years legend so isn't comparable to Don McClean who wasn't - Paul Simon was. Bazza will be fourth like the rest of them have been for almost twenty years now (bar one or two who were third, and the year they had Macy Gray instead).

Yes he will.....but I'm not the one trying to justify him being 5th down ;P

Biffy also at TRNSMT a fortnight later though, so is it really a case of festivals letting them do anything? They'll get a time slot, they'll roughly keep to it, taps will be aff and those who dislike them will rally to @CaledonianGonzo's flag for a right good knees-up :P :D sorted!

I reckon seventy-five standard. No different from the continent, I presume? (Where they are obviously a smaller pull.)

It is when it comes to them actually playing as they were never listed as an exclusive anyway and TRNSMT is in Scotland so had no affect and they are Scottish so would always sell well. I doubt they'd get that at some festivals on the continent, some wouldn't bother booking. The time length, I think even if they wanted longer and the fest agreed that's where a clause would come in that it could only be 75 mins....I'm happy to be proven wrong. Ed and Biffy for 1.5 hours and Chic and Gibb before hand would be class.

I'm now left to decide whether travelling up the for an hour after work on a Friday for 2 acts I'd like half a set for, 1 act I'd only get half a set and SOAD is worth close to £110 plus fuel on top....I think I know that answer.

And also apologies for stirring off subject, but what does everyone reckon the best  line up is this year in terms of festivals  in the UK ,imo I reckon Reading , in terms of  main headliners ( especially including Korn) , but in terms of overall average antagonising acts i'm gonna say Glastonbury

Reading? You are kidding, a recycled Muse and a recycled Kasabian who both play everywhere all the time. Then Eminem who I've never heard a good word said with regards to his live act.

Glastonbury has pulled it out of the bag really, first UK festival show for Radiohead since Reading. Foos who are popular enough. Ed Sheeran who is the biggest act in the world this year.

Not sure why korn are included on your note as i don't think that they are headlining?

The Glasto line up is streets ahead of Reading. To say otherwise is madness.

    • Production was the only thing that could even explain why she would back out. Like they had sorted out the financials and she was fine with it and then a production meeting happened. It all fell apart. It was very clear that she was not going to compromise her show one bit and then that show in Brazil pretty much confirmed it. There was like one element they couldnt pull off outdoors, but it was negligible since the rest was a carbon copy of the tour she had been on. Glasto is not willing to make any bold changes on the Pyramid stage so then theyre kinda stuck in terms of what some acts want/demand. I think the easiest solution to that is putting her on Friday. You deal with the changes for one night and then re configure for the rest of the weekend. In 24 they were fortunate to have had Dua and Coldplay on Fri and Sat so they could both use the b stage. But I think it was removed for Sunday?     I saw a random rag article earlier that said Olivia Dean turned down Glasto BECAUSE her ex ( not even confirmed dating ) Harry Styles was playing the fest. hahahaha
    • No argument that he’s bigger than ever, I just have no enthusiasm for it.
    • Keep in mind those crowds were full of teenagers. Glasto aint full of teenagers. Theres no way she could demand headline and get it because they got other acts to give the slot to who deserve it with a bigger catalog. Reading/Leeds would headline her cause its still LN.  If the fest was struggling its Other headline. But a 3rd down Pyramid is likely the landing spot. Itll go down like the Camila Cabello performance pretty much.
