HO HO HO, some splendid pop culture references there chaps. I understood them both without Googling who they were, nobody can ever prove otherwise (Branson better not fucking dob me in here).

You didn't know who Ronnie barker was?

If you'd have said "The Ronnie from The 2 Ronnies who wasn't Ronnie Barker" I would have.

I find it interesting that several people have said "sexism doesn't exist at Glastonbury" (and variations of this). Yes it does. It exists everywhere. It would be lovely if there were some sexism-free zone we could all go to for 5 days, but no such place exists. No, not even at Glastonbury.

Glastonbury has always had a strong political element. This is part of that lineage. Whether the 'venue' is good or bad we don't know yet. I don't know what it's going to look like. But it's raising an issue. It's not supposed to be Glastonbury's number 1 party venue that men have to miss out on. It's trying to raise an important issue. And I think we have to wait and see if it does a good job of it.

I don't think that was said by anyone in this thread at all, or even variations. My post on the first page probably comes closest but that's not what I meant - what I did mean was that I didn't think it was so fierce that safe spaces were needed in Shangri La but I got the complete wrong end of the stick about what the thing was initially.

I agree with your post though; it does remain to be seen whether it's a success or does end up sending a strong message.

But still, it's a bit shit that this thread didn't really go far into explaining and educating people why it might be a good thing and just descended into condemning and patronising people for opinions they don't have and things they never said.

Aww, I meant Ronnie Corbitt, sorry scruff. Sorry anybody else who was affected by that error.

Re: "It'd be sexist to have a men-only area", if there were multiple scheduled discussions about taboos surrounding men's health, and one of them was marked as a safe space for men only, nobody would be kicking off.

Remember in school when people fromt the council came in and all the boys were sent into one room to be told about boners and pubes, and all the girls were sent into the other room to be told about periods and pubes? That wasn't sexist either. You know how there's men's toilets and women's toilets? That's not sexist either.

No I don't remember that. Where did you go to school?

When you're about 10, they come in and they're like "alright lads, you've got puberty coming up, this video will explain what that's going to be like, and where babies come from also". The heavily religious kids' parents don't sign the form, so they go and sit in the lower year's classroom and do a worksheet to stop them going to hell, presumably.

That's how it went down at my school anyway. Our teacher, Fred The Weatherman, said it was all perfectly normal and there was no need to tell anybody about it ever.

There were several pages of explaining and educating, if after that some people are still going out of their way to not get it I feel patronisation is fair game.

You think men go into the longdrops and squat for a piss? That seems like very unlikely behaviour.

They're not necessarily mutually exclusive, sometimes a visit for a 2 results in a 1 as well.

Hope that helps ;)

Right, so the tiny amount of men who squat to shit accounts for perhaps 0.1% of the pissy seat problem.

It's a relatively recent phenomenon and the culprits are well known.

I'm just curious to know how you come to those figures Russy. Something we should know? :)

I went to Catholic school and can confirm we didn't see any of these type of shenanigans.

We just got told we were going to hell for masterbating.

    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.

    • Liddle: "Drop a small nuclear bomb on Glastonbury to immediately remove from our country almost everybody who is hugely annoying.”   Farage: Free speech!    Polanski: accepts a collaboration on 20 innocuous looking set of photos on instagram but doesn't notice that one that says 'making plans for Nigel' with a guillotine image.   Farage: I expect the MET police to arrest him.
    • I take my lad to the local non-league club - Royston Town - not he's 13, he goes there with his mates and he plays in their youth team.  Not many people there - lucky if they hit 800, but lovely supporting the town team.  I've took him to some league clubs too - Cambridge and Stevenage are great to visit and not crazy prices - his first one was Cambridge v Sunderland (I'm a mackem) when they were in league 1, so a great experience for him.  The England matches aren't too bad value either at Wembley - it's just the parking that stings you. Problem is, he's a City fan, so at some point have to bite the bullet and get him up to the Ethiad. Have done the tour, but he'd love a proper game....my wallet, less so!
    • Said it before, but if Annie Lennox is available next year, then it would be an absolute crime to instead book anyone else. She's rare and legendary enough that you drop all other plans.
