Secret Glasto Sets

Oh dear. Just looking at IFTTT and I find that users outside of North America are limited to 10 SMSs per month:

The SMS Channel has monthly message limits of 100 SMS messages per calendar month for users in U.S and Canada, and 10 SMS messages per month for users outside of North America. You will receive an email alert when you are close to reaching your monthly SMS limit.

When IFTTT’s monthly limit of 100 SMS messages has been reached, your Personal Recipes that send SMS will be paused. These Recipes will resume again on the first day of the next calendar month.

Anyone got any ideas for getting around this, or any alternative way of turning tweets to SMSs?

Yep.

Did I post some links earlier or was that on FB for receiving texts from emails? I think there must be ways of getting tweets in Gmail and then forwarding them to a mobile phone, I've googled these links amongst others but I'm now in meetings and can't take it further. Anyone else want to geek on this? My suggestion would be to get an email from the tweet, and then receive a text of that email. Longwinded but may work. I'm on 3 so won't be checking this, but good luck to those looking for a better way.

As I mentioned above, you can turn on mobile notifications for particular accounts you follow on Twitter. Twitter won't charge you, but your carrier may well do - it appears EE charges them at 10p a time.

Sorry, I meant notifications for free, especially if there are going to be loads from several accounts being followed.

@carlosj If you're on 3 then just text       FOLLOW @secretglasto to 86444

Cheers, but 3 is one of the recognised networks, so I'll get them without that needing to be done.

Right, in that case I think I've created the recipe for the emails https://ifttt.com/recipes/429486-secret-glasto-emails

Just a question of then forwarding the emails to a phone

Ok does anyone know how I can change the email address that these emails would go to ? It has my old email address set up for this, and even when I change my email address in my profile settings, it still sets up new recipes "channels" to the old one, frustrating!!

I imagine go here https://ifttt.com/email do 'disconnect' and then 'reconnect' with the correct email

Alexis spoke a bit about Glastonbury in a Reddit AMA yesterday. Saturday evening Crows Nest slot sounds like a winner!

This.

I didn't actually manage to get Twitter to text me directly (despite setting it up), so now I'm worried. I currently get notifications to my smart phone when certain people Tweet, but they don't come through as SMS messages. Anyone else have this problem? I registered my phone and got an activation text, but no texts since. Would Twitter know that I received a push notification, and know not to send a text? (I don't really know if anyone would know the answer to this, but worth a go!)

No. When I have SMS notifications on, I get both. Sounds like its something to do with your network/account settings. Have a google for your network and "twitter SMS notifications".

Are you looking forward to playing Glastonbury? Do you guys play every year?

Thanks for everything. You continually put out music I love and play shows that I have an incredible time at...

Saw you at Gorilla in Manchester a few years ago. It was superb. Saw you at the warehouse too, again, a great night.

Edit: Just saw your glasto response elsewhere...always read the comments. Looking forward to it!

oh thanks. Come to my solo show in Manchester on June 21st if you are about. with a DJ set from Manchester's own Black Lodge. This year at Glastonbury Hot Chip will only be DJing and doing various solo sets (I'll be at the Crow's Nest Saturday night at 7.30 and Joe is doing some DJ sets most nights I believe)

Does this sound like a DJ set?  I can't quite tell.  His recent stuff could easily be played in the Crow's Nest.

Thanks, I'll have a look. I'm on EE - has anyone managed to get texts straight from Twitter? I recall that @stuartbert two hats was having some trouble on EE - did you manage to find a solution?

I'm on Virgin (who use EE I believe) and I don't think it handles sms texts straight from twitter. I think they stopped working with O2 as well on my previous sim card.

I didn't try to get them from Twitter, I went straight to setting up the (seemingly near-useless) IFTTT.  I might try again with Twitter, but I don't intend to use SMS, since I'll be taking a smartphone and a couple of charger bricks.

Yeah, Google says a similar thing. Screws my plan right up! Might need to get a new PAYG SIM now.
