IF next year is going to be the last Glastonbury at Worthy Farm I can't imagine the number of people jumping to get tickets haha. I heard somewhere that every 5 years the festival had to take a break to let the field recover, I am not sure of this source thought.

That would be interesting and probably a good long-term investment. I'm wondering why that hasn't happened already.

It has.. He's bought up a huge amount of land adjacent to Worthy Warm over the years. Problem is that the Festival has expanded even faster.

It does roughly every 5 years. 2012, 2006, 2001 were the last 3.

I have just read that the Glastonbury site is 1100 acres , and i have just checked Longleat that is 1000 acres of Park land and 4000 acres of let farm land with another 4000 acres of woodland

so it would fit slightly with room to grow

If the festival does move, I will make a visit to Worthy Farm once a year or so, probably but not always, during the last weekend in June, (which I think quite a few people will do I guess). If that does happen a lot though, maybe access will eventually be denied!? I've been to every Glastonbury since 1993. It's become part of my life and has helped shaped the person I am today. It's really difficult to think about having to let it go...

Concerns me this, not gonna lie. I've always just shrugged off the 'it could move' reports but if it's a success it seems to me like it could be a step towards that. If it was to permanently move, regardless of where it is, it would be absolutely gutting

Longleat refuse to deny rumour Glastonbury Festival 2018 is coming to Wiltshire

"A spokesman for Longleat said he 'could not add anything to the rumours' about a potential Glastonbury 2018, and declined the chance to deny them out of hand."

If it's going to happen, it's going to happen.

In the meantime, it's around two and a half years away before we'd be likely to find out the festival is no longer at worthy farm, so perhaps it's best to wait until we work ourselves up into a frenzy. Two and a half years is a long time, and anything might happen to swerve their thoughts.

interesting, tho if the spokesperson knew nothing either way, then they probably wouldn't rule it out. I might be as simple as that.

Right people, calm down calm down.

Scott has just exchanged a few words with Emily, and she insists that talk of a move is incorrect. It's a new event for the year off.  "Same team, different event"

I now look forward to this more than dread it

Did he find out anything about this years plans

For what is worth

i would expect the new festival to be a boutique type festival aimed at a more middle class clientele. I would expect to capacity to be much less than Glastonbury.

I don't think it will be a poor mans Glastonbury but something different more in line with latitude or festival no 6

I think that the festival will be more commercial with more sponsorship and less money to charity (except local charities)  money made will be ploughed back into the festival to help it grow

if it's a success then the new festival will run in parallel with Glastonbury (but on different dates)

this will allow the new festival to grow to whatever the organisers want it to grow too and gives them options regarding Glastonbury (stop it, reduce size or renegotiate with others)

i do think There is a question mark on the long term future of Glastonbury

Tremendous news! I'm all for a one off event by team Glastonbury during the year off.

I wouldn't expect Emily to say anything else, she's far too savvy. Obviously they don't want to end the festival at Worthy, but if she's pretending that this isn't contingency for in case they are forced, then I don't believe her.

If it was sold as a move, then the publicity would probably be bad. But as a 'bonus'? Who doesn't like bonuses?

I'll happily bet money that the next time Michael mentions it publicly, it will be mentioned alongside the idea of moving. To me it looks like he's more concerned with putting the fear of God into the problematic neighbours.

What are you basing these ideas on? Emily will be doing most of the work on setting up this new festival and she's the one that has massively reduced the visible sponsorship over the last decade. However, I do think you're right on one thing - this festival will intially give fewer profits to charity, to help build up a war chest. Whatever site they choose, there will likely be many millions to spend in order to get the infrastructure up to Worthy standards.

Hopefully whatever this new festival turns out to be it is absolutely geared towards the younger generation. Try and make it completely unappealing to old farts.

Bye bye ancient heritage act headliners, no more thousand pound yurts and tipis, ban camping chairs etc

Let this festival look to the future, because Glastonbury has been well and truly appropriated by those stuck in the past.

Glastonbury is far too reliant on the grey pound these days

Hasn't this always been the case though? Maybe it's not been so much of a burning issue in recent years, particularly since the super fence, but there's always been that lingering feeling that it wouldn't last forever.
