HI guys

I have heard a few mentions of tatters from what I can understand these guys are meant to wait till everyone has gone and can have a rummage through whats left.

is it true these guys don't wait?

do they have to take the tent down they just rummaged through?

also how much stuff do they get? is it families or is it a business?

please understand i'm not interested in becoming one just curious about them

some fairly irritating people camped near us appeared to abandon their lovely brand new 6 man Quecha tent, I really wanted to take it home with me but I wasn't sure how I could determine it had truly been abandoned

we left the campsite at 10:30 so I didn't think that was late enough to start calling dibs on other tents

I was on site the week after last years festival and there were people going through tents left behind.

Tents do need to be cleared before they can be taken down though,  somebody has to do it.

a mate of mine works a lot of festival and he says security get most of the left behind booze, nobody else gets a look in,

if I was minded not to take booze home with me I'd rather give it to the volunteers than the employed security staff.

My tent is tatted from last years beautiful days. Taken down Monday night when all the public had left the site. It did have broken elastic in 1 of the poles so I guess that's why it was left (other than the horrendous weather) but that was easily sorted, it's a £150 tent :o

The amount of shite people leave behind is quite astonishing. From unopened alcohol, sometimes full crates, to expensive camping equipment people leave due to sheer laziness. There was even a full size pool table left in a tent with an actual wooden double bed. Christ knows how they got it there in the first place

credit for the double bed to be fair

Though of course everyone has signed the pledge this time, so nothing will be left behind...

Ahh, the almighty pledge. I can't wait to see no one peeing on the land and zero litter in the Pyramid field.

Damn, wouldn't it be nice? Just once, to walk to the gate on Monday past fields with nothing but patches of yellowed grass?

in all seriousness i leave too early to do this however if i had the luxury of leaving the site at 4 - 5pm on Monday i'd probably come home with a nice tent or 2 but because i leave too early 11-12,

you cant be sure whether people are just away getting fed or not or having a walk around the campsite.

At Bestival last year loads of Oxfam people go out and get as much alcohol as they can (after a certain time which i cant remember) and they have a big BBQ in the oxfield sharing out all the alcohol on Monday night.

I've always wanted to go tatting but I never stay around long enough for it

Yeah but they could have taken it home again, don't leave it for the poor sods working the festival to clear up

Totally get that seems a few on here wouldn't mind doing it them selves nothing wrong with it as long as people have gone home and not for a walk.

We don't leave site til late Monday afternoon and usually do a little bit of tatting. Or wombling, some people call it. We'd never take things if we thought there was a chance the person would come back! We've just found beer, packets of biscuits, cans of pop, that's it really. Would never take a tent (or anything else) if it wasn't definite the people had left it.

It's not an intentional thing we do, we don't wait just to tatt, we just don't leave til Monday afternoon so collect beer if its there!
